Pretty disappointed. It was our maiden voyage with the new RV. The rv site was extremely overgrown. It was very difficult to get the rv backed in. The slip was not level and completely muddy. poison ivy was at the back of the RV, grass over grown to the point we had wood ticks, and had steel wheels as "fire pits". We were able to look past that stuff and got settled. Woke up Saturday to and had plans to pet the animals and rent a golf cart or side by side as listed available on their website, only to be told that it is a different company about 3 exits up, but they need notice and probably wouldn't be able to get us an atv that fast, and that the animals weren't there anymore. A lot of fast atv/dirt bike/golf car traffic. if you are looking for quiet, relaxing and a few activities, this may not be the place for you. We will most certainly not be coming back. It does look like a nice spot for the seasonal slips, and the employees were very nice, that's why 3 stars.
Be aware they had a fire last winter and lost a bunch of the swim pond equipment. The swim pond does not match what is on their website anymore and they are not informing customers of this. They do have some stuff still but it's not what it used to be. Pond was also VERY full of tadpoles on our visit. Not very impressed. Also, there is no longer farm animals and wagon rides. Non of which is updated or shared with paying customers. Some sites are also backwards so you have to pull in headfirst, unhook and drive out of the yard to get back to the road... very inconvenient.
Hidden gem of a campground. Amazing family destination. Things to do in any weather- brand new water park and beach area were super fun! Ice cream parlor and wagon rides through the country is a nice touch, as well as chickens and goats for kids to pet. Fun for adults too with event/social spaces and campground is connected to 100s of miles of atv trails. Mini golf was fun as well. Only about a mile from Shell Lake beach, many options to camp or go into town to restaurants. This was our 3rd year coming here and it was the best time yet, new owners have updated many things and really invested a lot to make it a great campground.
Originally I thought the website had a lot of great things to say about the campground! Great photos and what looked like great activities for kids. How anyone gives this place more than a 1 or 2 star is surprising. I looked on their website on what time we could check in to the cabin we rented which I could not find. I sent them an email and called them and no one responded to me. We decided to show up at 2 and when we got here even the worker did not know what time cabin check in was. We reserved cabin B and it ended up not existing and she sent us to cabin D. When we went to D the people were still there and not packed up. We ended up finding out checkout was 11AM and they still would not leave. Ended up being the owners family at our reserved cabin and we had to wait for about an hour before they would leave. It wasn’t u til 5PM that I got an email from the manager that we could check in at 3, but this did us no Good since it was after we had arrived. The icecream here that they serve is old and over frozen and over priced. The firewood was also insanely priced at 9$!!! The playground had broken swings and everything looked like they were from the 70-s or so and unkept. The manager was rude and would smoke next to people’s kids and was not friendly. The barn with “crafts and activities” is so run down i don’t know why people use this place. I was very disappointed with the establishment and staff. While we were here we heard several other people voice their frustrations about how close everyone’s sites were together and how hard it was to bring campers into their spots. The bathrooms were also disgusting. The stalls were only 4 feet high with little protection and the urinal was filled with brown old urine that had been there for some time. The bathrooms were not clean and the shower was filthy. I saw other people posting that this place lied in their pictures and they did. They took pictures from other campgrounds pools etc and took them for their own website. The pond is small and NOTHING like the pictures. I have seen a bunch of 1 star reviews thus far and they have all been accurate. Overall not many people enjoyed this place with what I saw. We will not be coming back again.
Very disappointed and will not be coming back. The campground is nothing like the website and the staff were completely dishonest about the status of construction. We booked a site by the swimming pond excited for the beach. It is nothing but a construction zone. When we asked about the pond, we were told it was going "to be ready tomorrow, it just needs rocks." Bold to tell us that lie. Even more irritating that no work was continued to get the pond ready for summer during our stay. I should also mention that another gentleman left a review 3 weeks ago and they replied saying the swimming pond will be ready in a week (2 weeks before our stay). Very confusing getting around the campground. The office is not labeled and neither are any of the sites. Sites were not mowed upon arrival. We went to the office to get a map of local ATV trails but they "ran out last weekend." Low stock of wood and $7/small bundle. Only positives were the clean bathrooms and that they allowed us to change sites for our group to be closer. Don't waste your time or money.
