Best place to go for amazing sunsets and sunrises. If you go to flaming gorge, make this stop. We stayed at the Red Canyon Lodge nearby, which is right up the road. The views are amazing, it's peaceful, and a great way to relax.
The Red Canyon visitor center on the Green River is a very nice and informative place to visit. The look outs along the trails give a great and awesome view of the river far below. We really enjoyed this visit.
Unbelievably beautiful place. The overlook area that they've built is just great. 1700 ft down to the Green River and about 4,000 ft wide at this point. It's a must see. We thought the best time to see it was after 6:00 in the evening when The visitor center was closed. Not so many rangers and others telling you what to and not to do. Lots of parking and even a section for oversized or long vehicles or RVs. And they have a mountain bike trail that goes four and a half miles along the rim.
Went at the beginning of April. Still some snow on the ground but you can make the paths out. Roads are completely clear to the visitor center though. I was the only one there for about 40 minutes. Absolutely stunning views of Red Canyon.
One of the most beautiful canyons I have seen. Dams upstream and downstream create a reservoir for recreation and water conservation. Above and below the dams is the Green River. The canyon is 4000 feet deep and 1500 to 1700 feet wide. While it is a little off the road, take the time to check it out. Well worth the time and effort. Rangers are knowledgeable and friendly. Learned about the history of the area and the geology. Loved it!
