I love this lake! I love it twice as much while the boat ramp is closed and there's no people there! 😆The lake is very full and the best dino trax are under water right now. We paddled our kayaks from the day use area on the backside of the lake. My biggest issue with this lake is the lack of shore access. The day use area isnt even marked. I think that should be their next project after the campground. Accessible day use. Not everyone owns a boat to get to a private spot.
This place is awesome and is a must visit. It has dinosaur tracks, a fun reservoir for a swim, and it is a fun hike. The dinosaur tracks are incredible. There are so many of them. They are also well preserved. I have not seen many places where you can see dinosaur tracks. The reservoir is beautiful. As you can see from the pictures, you can jump off of the rock into the reservoir. There is a small cave that you can swim into. I also saw kayakers there too. The hike did not seem long. There was so much to see and the scenery was so beautiful that the time flew by. This is a must visit.
I enjoyed spectacular views of the reservoir and particularly water reflections of the surrounding rock formations.
Great little reservoir to spend the day on. I’d recommend camping at nearby Steinaker state park though. We decided to book our trip that way based on what the campground looks like online and am sure glad we did. The camping here at Red Fleet is akin to sleeping in a Walmart parking lot. Rows of paved stalls packed together like sardines. Not sure what the thought process was there. The lake on the other hand was amazing. We spent two days here exploring. The first day we hiked in from the backside to the dinosaur tracks. Wear your swimsuit if you do. There’s a great spot to jump in the water at the end of the hike. The second day we brought our paddle boards back and launched them from the boat launch. We spent the day exploring the lake. The water even though very low was still cool and clear. As others have said it’s kind of like a mini lake Powell. We will be back.
Great, well marked, 3 mile hike leads you to this incredible reservoir where dinosaur tracks are easy to see. The water levels were extremely low this year (April 2021) so we were able to see a lot of tracks! Bring water to drink!
