Location and Accessibility
The Red Lodge KOA Journey is ideally located at 7464 US-212, Red Lodge, MT 59068, USA. This strategic address places it approximately four miles north of the charming and historic town of Red Lodge. Red Lodge itself is renowned as the northern gateway to the iconic Beartooth Highway (US-212), frequently described as one of America's most scenic drives, and a vital route leading to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
For Montana locals, the campground's accessibility is a significant advantage. From Billings, Montana's largest city in the eastern part of the state, the Red Lodge KOA Journey is approximately an hour's drive south on US-212. This makes it an incredibly convenient destination for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation without extensive travel. Even from larger population centers further west, such as Bozeman, the drive is manageable, typically around 2 to 2.5 hours. The campground's direct frontage on US-212 ensures easy access for all types of vehicles, including large RVs and those towing trailers, as it is situated between mile markers 74 and 75.
The reviews highlight its perfect position as a "home base for doing day trips" to Yellowstone National Park, which is "about an hour outside" (specifically, 73 miles from the Silver Gate entrance to Yellowstone). This means campers can enjoy the majestic beauty of the national park by day and return to the comfort and amenities of the KOA by evening. Furthermore, its proximity to the Beartooth Highway allows easy exploration of this breathtaking mountain pass. This combination of being nestled in the mountains while offering superb access to major attractions makes the Red Lodge KOA Journey an exceptionally convenient and desirable location for Montanans seeking adventure.

Best KOA ever. The owners are the nicest people you could meet. The campground is beautiful and well maintained. The bathrooms and shower units are extremely clean. Rebecca, I want to thank you for helping us and our other camping friends for accommodating us the way you did. You and your staff are so friendly and helpful. The showers/bathrooms were very clean along with the laundry room. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks again.
Friendly and great customer service in what would appear to be a family-owned and run type of operation. They were over-the-top helpful in all our needs! Highly recommend staying for RV-ers. I can't speak for tent camping or cabin renters.
