Red's Meadow Resort offers an ideal base for exploring the stunning Sierra Nevada wilderness, nestled in the heart of Mammoth Lakes, California. Perfectly situated near Mono Lake and Mount Langley, this resort caters to both outdoor enthusiasts and families seeking relaxation and adventure.
Guests praise the resort for its friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. One hiker highlighted the ease of accessing trails and the helpfulness of the team, making their stay memorable. Another visitor noted that while the hiker box is smaller, trading with fellow travelers compensated for this minor inconvenience.
Red's Meadow Resort stands out as an excellent choice for those looking to experience the John Muir Wilderness without roughing it in the backcountry. Its blend of comfort and proximity to nature makes it a top spot for any traveler exploring the Sierra Nevada region.
I stumbled into Red's on my third day of the JMT and enjoyed the Gatorade and food immensely. The bus to get to the campground is easy to figure out, the people are helpful, and the showers and laundry made me feel like a human being again. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the hiker box - significantly smaller than VVR's or MTR's. But if you trade with the hikers around you, you'll do just fine. And there's plenty of supplies to be had in the general store, they're just more expensive than the free 99 rations in the box.
If you want to really get a taste of the John Muir Wilderness, but are not back country hikers, this is an awesome place to experience it. Our two night stay was the highlight of our trip and the operators of this establishment are very kind, friendly and helpful.
Wonderful experience for JMT resupply and 1 night stay in their hiker hotel room. Everyone was super helpful and accomodating. Highly recommend if passing through.
Would give them 5 stars if the restaurant served fries!! Such a great backcountry experience for those of us thru hiking! Loved the hiker cabin, showers, laundry and restaurant!
Big ants in the room. Minimal service - they’re just reopened still working out the kinks but don’t expect any major improvements anytime soon. With the shuttle running staying in town may be a better choice.
