Welcome to Red Top Mountain State Park Campground, located in Cartersville, GA 30121. As a part of the 'Campgrounds & RV Parks' category, this campground offers a mix of positive and negative experiences, particularly regarding facility conditions and cleanliness.
Red Top Mountain State Park Campground is generally praised for its clean facilities and friendly hosts. Guests appreciate the well-maintained environment and the helpfulness of the staff. However, potential visitors should be aware that the images on the Georgia State Parks website may not accurately reflect the current state of the campground.
The campground is currently dealing with a pine beetle infestation, resulting in numerous dead and downed pine trees and brush piles. Some campsites are located close to these piles, which may pose a critter issue, especially during the summer months. While this is less of a concern during the winter, when the campground is considered ideal, it is a significant factor to consider for warmer seasons.
However, there are also reports of very negative experiences, particularly with the yurts. Guests have described the yurts as dirty and bug-infested, with issues such as a lack of outside lighting, tripping electrical sockets, dirty pull-out couches, and rodent holes. The campground's response, citing the age of the yurts, has been criticized, with guests emphasizing that age does not excuse poor maintenance.
The campground offers excellent hiking trails within walking distance, which is a significant advantage for outdoor enthusiasts. However, potential guests should be aware of the potential for site discrepancies and insect issues, particularly in the yurts.
Red Top Mountain State Park Campground offers clean facilities and friendly hosts, but with ongoing pine beetle issues and mixed reviews on yurt cleanliness. Enjoy great hiking trails, but be aware of potential site discrepancies and insect issues.
For inquiries or reservations, you can contact Red Top Mountain State Park Campground at (800) 864-7275 or +1 800-864-7275. When booking, inquire about the current condition of the campsites and yurts, and be aware of the pine beetle infestation.
Customers highlight the clean facilities and friendly hosts, but also report issues with yurt cleanliness and the pine beetle infestation. They advise potential guests to be aware of these issues when booking.

Wonderful campground. Facilities are clean and hosts are really nice. Pictures on GA state parks website are not up to date. There is a good chance you will get here and not have the site you think you booked. Currently a pine beetle infestation in they are trying to handle so lots of dead and downed pine trees and brush piles. Some sites are very close to these piles. In the winter this doesn’t matter (best time to be here anyway) but in the summer I can imagine this is a critter issue. Over all great campground with great trails within walking distance.
Had the dirtiest, bug infested, and worst yurt experience ever! No outside lighting so you can't see the steps at night, outdoor socket keeps on tripping so you can't even use for accessories or plug in extra lighting. Pull-out couch was very dirty, bugs crawling and flying during our stay, dirt and dust at every corner/ ledge, rodent holes all around. There excuse was, it's old. Old can still be cleaned and properly maintained!
Very nice and well maintained campground. Restrooms are very clean and roads are well kept up. Campsite has fresh water, power outlets, picnic table and fire pit. Only complaint is majority of campsites are very close together
The photos below are of some really nice sites. All are close to the Bathhouse (Very Clean), Playground and a really nice Pavilion for smaller groups. Also most of these sites work well with larger RV's.
Love this place. In the woods with lots of outdoor fun- hiking, biking, & swimming.
