### **Introduction / Overview**

**Redmond Cove South Campground** is a well-established recreational facility located on the shores of John Redmond Reservoir near Burlington, Kansas. As part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) network of parks on the reservoir, this campground is known for providing quality, full-service camping options—including utility hookups—that cater to both RV and tent campers. The area is part of the larger John Redmond Reservoir project, which plays a vital role in the region's flood control, water supply, and management of significant wildlife areas, notably the adjacent Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge.

The surrounding environment is characterized by the rolling hills of the tallgrass prairie, providing a stunning backdrop to all outdoor activities. While the campground offers modern facilities, its primary appeal is the convenient access it offers to the water, making it a favorite for anglers, boaters, and those who simply enjoy lakeside relaxation.

It is important to note the administrative and booking system, which, according to some local users, has presented challenges. The official COE reservation website, which manages sites like Redmond Cove South, has been described by some patrons as difficult to navigate, particularly for senior citizens or those less comfortable with new technology. Visitors are advised that if they encounter difficulties with the online platform, the most reliable method for securing a reservation remains calling the John Redmond Reservoir office directly. The staff at the COE office are equipped to assist with the booking process, ensuring that the technology challenge doesn't prevent access to this beautiful Kansas resource.

### **Location and Accessibility**

Redmond Cove South Campground is ideally situated for local Kansas users, easily accessible from major routes while still providing a secluded, natural atmosphere.

The official address for the general area is **Jrr, Burlington, KS 66839, USA**. The facility is located in Coffey County, positioned off US-75 and Embankment Road, near the cities of Burlington and New Strawn. This places it on the eastern side of the reservoir.

Accessibility is typically excellent, as COE parks are generally well-signed and maintained. The park roads leading to the sites are often paved or well-kept gravel, designed to accommodate larger recreational vehicles (RVs) and trailers. Due to its location near the Flint Hills, visitors enjoy panoramic views of the vast tallgrass prairie. The reservoir is a central point along the Central Flyway, meaning accessibility also extends to viewing major migratory bird patterns in both the spring and fall seasons. Visitors are encouraged to confirm directions with the Corps of Engineers office, as rural Kansas routes can sometimes be tricky for first-time visitors relying solely on GPS.

This website is not at all user friendly. There are senior citizens using this that are are not real good at computers. (Myself included) I could at least navigate my way through the old system. This new system is for the birds. So, I will more than ever now, call in and make our reservations. Both my husband have tried this new site and again it is not user friendly.
