Customer Reviews
This is always a quiet place for some relaxation, although weekends the campground is packed and can be very busy most campers are respectful of others. The camp-host and US forestry employees are quite friendly and fun to talk to. This has been my summer get away for several years, I take the kids up here from west Texas.
Just one of many amazing campgrounds in our forest. It was really cold. To cold for me at night. I didn't know it was 8200 ft elevation. Temps dipped into the high 30's. I was simply not prepared for that. Several campsites from tent camping to travel trailers camping. There was a group of people having a good time and being loud, but they immediately toned it down at the 10 pm. I enjoyed it greatly. But I won't camp there unless it's peak summer time.
Huge campground and we were very happy we found this one. While other campground work with annoying reservation systems, this uses "first come, first served" system. We couldn't find a spot at other campgrounds, but had luck here. We stayed for 3 days and every day enjoyed another spot. The camp host was very friendly and kept the restrooms clean and made sure there was enough toilet paper. We wish the state forest service would use some money they make from this kind of paid campgrounds to make repairs, do maintenance and paint every now and then some benches.
Large campground with decent campsite availability on a Friday night in June. While nearby Jemez and San Antonio Campgrounds were booked up, Redondo was definitely busy but there were plenty of sites available. I did have to search for one with better privacy though as the sites in the center of a loop are very exposed to others. Toilets need servicing though, I expected better attention to this from the USFS in peak season.
Absolutely loved the hikes behind the campground. the campground has a fire ring, appreciate the various options, toilets provided but no running water. First come first serve with a $10 fee. I will come back again! 🫶🏽
This was a great camp for one night in a campervan. No phone service. Bathrooms(pit toilets) were clean and well stocked. Fire pit and picnic table at the site. It was quiet and blocked from most of the wind. Great stars at night. If you don’t book in advance it’s hard to pay since they now want you to scan a QR code to pay but with no service it doesn’t work.
Your read about the great hosts and wonder!?....these were great hosts!! I had site 3 and loved the privacy....it seemed to go on and on. Mike the camp host left a bunch of firewood for me which was extremely kind. The firepit was clean upon arrival and bathrooms were too. The hosts came by to offer their recommendations with sites available but were never over bearing. Little mountain store with all essentials about 3 miles up the road...except gas. Come prepared with gas. Great campground to be "in the middle" of everything....the town of Jamez isn't too far in one direction, the town of Los alamos isn't too far in another and in between all that you have national monuments, national recreation areas, and national wildlife preserves!!! Great hiking, fishing, and viewing.Absolute gem of an area!
