Redtail Campground Introduce

Welcome to Redtail Campground, located at 3374+4H, Potlatch, ID 83855, within McCroskey State Park. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Redtail offers a potentially secluded camping experience with access to hiking trails.

Environment: Redtail Campground is described as a beautiful campsite. It is located off Highway 95, requiring travel of about 9 miles on a dirt road to reach, contributing to its secluded atmosphere. The surrounding area features many trails suitable for hiking. However, one review noted a lack of sufficient trees for shade from the sun. While one visitor mentioned the road leading to the campground might be narrow, especially when approaching from the Farmington, WA side, another found the location to offer a sense of being alone.

Services: The campground provides basic amenities, including a pit toilet, which was reported to be clean by one visitor. Each campsite has a fire ring and a table with a wind break, making it potentially well-suited for tent camping. Water is available at the campsite, but there was a reported pump issue making it unusable at the time of one visitor's stay. Another review mentioned potable water being turned off. It's advisable to inquire about the current water situation before planning your trip.

Features: A significant feature of Redtail Campground is its location within McCroskey State Park, offering access to numerous hiking trails. The secluded nature of the campground, reached via a dirt road, can be appealing to those seeking a quieter experience. Notably, at the time of one review, the camping was free, which could be a significant draw for budget-conscious travelers. Cellphone service was reported to be available at the campground.

Promotional Information: The primary promotional aspect gleaned from the reviews is the potential for free camping and a secluded experience in a beautiful setting with access to hiking trails. While the water situation appears to be inconsistent, the presence of fire rings, tables with wind breaks, and a clean restroom (at least at one point) suggests a functional, albeit basic, camping setup. For the most current information on fees, water availability, and road conditions, it is recommended to contact McCroskey State Park directly, although a specific contact number is not provided in the given information.

For local users in Taiwan planning a camping trip to Idaho, Redtail Campground offers the possibility of a free and secluded camping experience within McCroskey State Park. The availability of hiking trails is a significant draw for outdoor enthusiasts. However, it's crucial to be aware of the potential narrowness of the access road, especially from the Farmington side, and to check the current status of the water supply. The lack of shade might also be a consideration during warmer months. If you are looking for a more off-the-beaten-path and potentially free camping option with hiking opportunities, Redtail could be worth considering, provided you are prepared for basic amenities and check on the water situation beforehand.

Redtail campground in McCroskey State Park. We had heard that the road leading into Redtail was wide enough for two cars to pass each other, but this was not the case, especially if you are coming in from the Farmington WA side. The campsite itself was beautiful, but it appeared that it hadn't been used this past year. There was a pit toilet. There is water at the campsite but unusable because of a pump issue. Each campsite had a fire ring and a table with a wind break. It would be a great place to pitch a tent. There are many trails for hiking.

Not a lot of choices finding a place to camp off of hwy 95. We ventured off the highway and traveled about 9 miles on a dirt road until we reached the Redtail campground. We had cellphone service and the place to ourselves. It has potable water but it was turned off. The restroom was clean. Not enough trees for shade from sun. But it was free Camping.

Nice newer camp with several back in style camp sites with wind block fences, picnic table and firepit in each. There is potable water available and roads are decent. Small trailer or small RV would fit. This place has little shade for hot days and can be REALLY windy at times. Great place to stay if you want to explore the areas multi-use trails.

Potable water and 8 or so sites with tables and fire pits. Didn’t stay overnight but the views are amazing!!! No one here! Thursday in late June. There are windbreaks in some of the sites too.
