Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown Journey Introduce

Welcome to Reno KOA Journey at Boomtown Journey, a well-maintained campground located in Verdi, Nevada, offering a comfortable and convenient stay for travelers. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, we provide a range of amenities and services to ensure a pleasant experience. Situated at 2100 Garson Rd, our campground is an excellent base for exploring the Reno area.

Reno KOA Journey offers scenic views, particularly from the back row sites, where guests can enjoy vistas of the river, train tracks, aqueduct, and mountains. The campground is green and well-maintained, with sprinklers and shade trees. Sites are reasonably spaced, and pet owners appreciate the nearby grassy areas for walks.

Amenities include a pool, laundry room, and a small store in the registration building. However, the pool hours are limited, and there are only two private bathrooms with showers, which can lead to wait times. While there isn't a dedicated family center or playground, the proximity to Boomtown offers entertainment options like video games, mini-golf, and a carousel.

The campground's location near Reno, a gambling town, might influence its focus, but it remains a clean and well-kept place for short stays. Security is present throughout the day and night, ensuring a safe environment.

RV sites are well-equipped with hookups, including 50amp electrical, water (around 40psi), and sewage. Guests recommend using surge protection and pressure regulators. Data speeds, particularly for T-Mobile, are excellent, and Wi-Fi is available for basic internet use.

The staff receives high praise for their friendliness and helpfulness, providing local information and ensuring guests feel welcome. However, it's worth noting that amenities like the hot tub may have seasonal or temporary closures.

Stayed here for a few nights on our 2000 mile roadtrip. Had a spot along the back row fence with the most amazing view of the river, train track, aqueduct, and the mountains. The spots are far enough from the neighbor, and it is possible to walk the dogs across the street for potty breaks in the grass. The campground is very green with sprinklers on at night and the trees in the middle are nice for shade. The pool was nice, but the hours were fairly limited and there were only two private locking bathrooms with showers available for the entire campground. The kids spent quite some time waiting for people to get out of those bathrooms when they were trying to take a shower before or after going into the pool. There is a registration office, laundry room, and little “store” in the building next to the pool, and we didn’t see any kind of family center where you could really hang out. There was no playground apparent either so it felt like this place wasn’t really super friendly for families with kids, but that could be because it is not far from the town of Reno, which is a gambling town. Security came through a few times a day and night with flashing lights, and we often saw security guards walking around the pool area so I’m not sure if they might’ve had problems with outside people trying to get in and that is why they were very particular with the bathroom code and only having certain hours that the pool was open. Up the hill, there was a casino/hotel/ entertainment building (Boomtown) that was fun. They had a place with video games and mini golf and a carousel for the kids. The Cabela’s store next door was also interesting to look at with all of the taxidermic animals they had in there, including a huge live fish tank and a shooting gallery that took coins. All in all, it was a clean, well taken care of campground that was fine for a few nights and not far from the main city of Reno to go visit and check out the sights.

Fit my class a 35ft old gal without issues the hook ups and the tree on the opposite side made me pull forward more but when I did a walk around befor opening my slides I notice it was meant for you to pull up a hair more and fit nicely. The 50amp hook up had no burn mark and feels solid. The water hook up was around 40psi. Still need to use surge protection and pressure regulator for a peace of mind when things go foobar. The sewage hook up, I had some trouble getting my line screwed on but luckly got it to screw on nice and snug and had no kaka accidents. Shockingly data speed for T-Mobile was super fast, I do not know if the camp ground put boosters for cells or the T-Mobile signal is just strong and fast. I got 500mbps however it had a slow upload speed of around 10mbps (cell phone end) but good enough to run my gaming laptop. The wifi was slower but solid and great for basic YouTube or a quick game when you are not out n about. Now for the staffs that a whole new story. They were unbelievable nice ☺️ I had a good time chatting with them getting information about the area and them asking how my well-being was doing for my travels to this camp ground. They also informed me on some deals at boomtown too! My only sadness was their website said pool and hottub was open but it wasnt going to be open till friday and i check out Thursday😕. I will be looking forward to comming back a few times a year, I like the area, like the condition of the camp grounds and the 3 staffs I spoked to doing my stay were very nice and one was very chill and another makes you feel welcomed and excited to have you here. Ty!

Made reservations here to visit with my brother and sister and their spouse's at the end of a 5 week trip to Texas and back. We weren't going to spend much time in camp so we had no need for a premium spot. We stayed on the outer ring looking over the river in a back-in spot. The first thing we noticed was the amount of tall dry weeds in our site. Then as we got settled seeing all the trash accumulated next to the fence. Once we got into our RV for the evening after visiting family, we attempted to sign onto the WiFi. At first we were completely unable to get a connection, and once we did the quality was so bad we were unable to access anything. We stayed at several places through out our trip, paying significantly less than the $60 we paid here with much better upkeep and much better WiFi service. If you're going to promote a clean park with available WiFi, at least provide it. In the past I have not stayed at KOA, because to me the quality has not met the expense. This experience has reinforced that and I will have to find another place to stay next time I come to Reno.

I stayed here for three nights while visiting the Lake Tahoe area. A very friendly staff and quality campsites that you would expect from a KOA. I enjoyed using the hot tub which is not too common for a Journey rated campground. The are a lot of long term residents here but the grounds are kept up well. I recommend it if your visiting the Reno area.

This was our first time staying in a KOA campground and only our second stop with our 42' 5th wheel. Initially, it was a KOA Journey, something I didn't fully grasp back then – that it might not be the ideal place for an extended stay unless you were focused on local activities and simply using it for rest. We stayed at this location from March 25th, 2022, through April 21st, 2022, for a longer duration due to our preparations for nationwide travel in our 5th wheel. However, I wouldn't advise anyone to opt for such an extended period here. Upon our arrival, we completed the check-in process. The staff was decent, except for the manager whose behavior was rather peculiar. Unfortunately, he displayed an unprofessional attitude, finding amusement in the misfortunes of others on more than one occasion. For instance, he took pleasure in recounting instances where people struggled to park their trailers and damaged them. It was an odd and unsettling experience. I began to wonder whether the manager intentionally assigned us a challenging spot with a sharp turn, given that my husband had informed him it was our first time maneuvering our rig. Despite the difficulties posed by the layout of the trees, we managed to park. However, due to limited space, our slides couldn't fully extend on one side. Seeking a solution, we approached the office, only to find the entire staff observing us with what seemed like amusement. The manager's demeanor was particularly galling – a smug expression on his face. It was disappointing to encounter such behavior; I have little patience for those lacking basic kindness and empathy. Thankfully, my husband's experience in parking trailers came in handy, and he navigated the situation effectively. Although this was our inaugural experience moving our new 5th wheel, it was far from his first time parking a trailer. The site itself was a pull-through, accommodating up to 55 feet – though this posed challenges for larger trailers with slides on both sides. Full hookups, 50 Amp power, WiFi/cable services, propane availability, and a laundry facility were provided. However, the laundry closed when the office did. The campground did accept delivered packages and was dog-friendly, though a dedicated enclosed dog park was absent. Unfortunately, the overall cleanliness was lacking, and dog waste was a concern. Throughout my stay, I observed maintenance being performed just once, and that was when a KOA representative was also lodged there. I recognize this might sound harsh, but this is an accurate reflection of my experience. Additionally, if tranquility is what you seek, this is not the spot for you. The constant sound of passing trains persisted day and night. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this park to anyone. Instead, I suggest considering GSR if you're in the area and desire proximity to a casino. *For those unfamiliar with the KOA experience, understanding the distinctions between various types of KOAs (KOA Journey, KOA Holiday, KOA Resort) is essential to tailor your choice to your preferences and needs.

I think the employees at this KOA say it all on how to run a campground!! Very friendly and helpful. We were traveling from Massachusetts and I was unexpectedly hospitalized in the Carson Tahoe Medical Center. My husband had to move our trailer and these wonderful people helped him to manage that. They adjusted his reservation by adding days and then giving us a refund when we left a day early. There are a lot of nice people out there and you can find some of them at this KOA!! Also... The laundry room is clean with 6 washers and 6 dryers. Very clean with money exchange machine for quarters. Right down the hill from the casino. One thing negative is that they keep the campground very brightly lit at night making it hard to sleep. Thanks KOA employees for really helping this older traveling couple.

Crowded with probably around 1200 people and two shower/bathrooms after the store closed; four when open. The showering people obviously make the wait excruciating for those urgently needing the restroom. The dog park doesn't exist. It's a woodchip area with a bag station. The playground is something you'd have in your backyard that you bought at a discount. The "fun zone" they advertise is a paid part of the casino complex and not part of the KOA. It's really just a parking lot with a fence around it. I would rather have boondocked and this is going to put me off of KOA for awhile. The staff were friendly and cordial and the night was quiet, which is what gets it two stars.

My husband travel's for work so we normally like to stay at KOA's but this one is by far the WORST one we have EVER stayed at! First we got here after emailing a week prior and speaking on the phone, sending photos of our camper and everything and they acted like they had no idea we were coming. Not a very good feeling when we have a baby and traveled all the way from Ohio thinking we had a spot. They then hurried up and put us in a spot. Mind you we pay monthly so once we pay we are here because they don't give money back. Not a big deal, UNTIL we fully set up for our water to stop working! My husband told them right away and we had to wait a whole day to move spots. Also wouldn't have been as bad if their showers/bathroom wasn't absolutely discussing! Also smell of pee and poop, showers have gunk built up in the corners, water all over the floor every time you go in, and trash never changed. We moved to the spot next to us and about a week later they had workers come and dig up the spigot next to us to fix it and instantly our camper smelled like the pipes were backing up. We told them about it and their answer was "shut both tanks". That's fine we do that anyways but every time we dump them our camper fills with the smell. After literally offering to show them and them denying to come check it out we are leaving two weeks into paying the month. The rest of the problems seem small to that but they consist of being denied laundry mat because the lady with the big red hair who lives and works here is ALWAYS pushing people out, she walks her dog and gives dirty looks to our children and can not answer simple questions without being rude! The rest of the staff is amazing. You can just tell the management is nowhere around! and none knows what is going on. We love KOA but this one has defiantly changed our opinion.

Average at best. The good: pull through spots were pretty level; FHU sites; and nice enough staff at the office. The bad: this campground has hundreds of sites and there are only 2 bathroom units for the entire place, including showers. Restroom and shower in one room, so if you are using one, the other is unusable. But in most campgrounds I have been in, there are regionally place restrooms/showers, which I would expect in a KOA. Probably choose another option if I return to the area.
