Rice Tank Introduce

Rice Tank Campground is a hidden gem nestled within the boundaries of Big Bend National Park, Texas. This unique campground offers a pristine escape for outdoor enthusiasts seeking an authentic wilderness experience. Situated in one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the United States, Rice Tank provides a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and connection with nature.

As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Rice Tank distinguishes itself with its remote location and limited accessibility by vehicle, making it a popular choice for those looking to get away from the crowds. The campground is open seasonally, offering both RV sites and tent camping options. Equipped with basic amenities such as water (from the historic "tank" or pond) and pit toilets, Rice Tank ensures that visitors can enjoy nature without compromising on comfort.

One of the standout features of Rice Tank is its stunning natural environment. Surrounded by the rugged Chisos Mountains, the campground offers panoramic views that inspire awe and tranquility. The area is a haven for hikers, with numerous trails leading through diverse terrains, from desert landscapes to mountainous vistas. Visitors have reported spotting a variety of wildlife, including birds, deer, and occasional sightings of javelinas and other native species.

Rice Tank Campground is particularly cherished for its seclusion. While the main gravel road nearby allows access for supplies, the campsite itself is far removed from civilization, providing a true taste of wilderness. The limited number of sites available by reservation only ensures that guests can enjoy a more private and immersive experience.

For those planning to visit, it’s worth noting the unique charm of Rice Tank. The historic "tank" or pond adds character to the site, serving as a reminder of its cattle grazing past. Hiking into the tank is discouraged for safety reasons, but exploring the surrounding trails offers ample opportunities for adventure and discovery.

Customer feedback highlights the campground’s beauty, seclusion, and rich outdoor experiences. One visitor described Rice Tank as "a great spot to camp" with "beautiful views of the Chisos mountains." Another praised its remoteness, noting that while vehicles can be seen on the main road, the area remains quiet and private. Many guests also appreciated the opportunities for long hikes and birdwatching.

Rice Tank Campground is more than just a place to stay; it’s an invitation to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Big Bend National Park. Whether you’re an experienced camper or seeking your first taste of outdoor adventure, Rice Tank offers a memorable experience that connects visitors with the land and its history.

Nice remote private camping spot far off the main road. You can see vehicles go by the main gravel road, but not many people come out here. By reservation only. There is a water 'tank' (pond) here from the old cattle grazing days. I was tempted to hike into the tank, but probably best that I did not. Great views of the Chisos mountains to the west, you can take a long desert walk from here too. I did not see any bears, snakes, or havalinas, but they are around for sure. Lot's of birds.

Rice Tank was very nice and secluded. Great view of mountains as the sun came up. Had a passer by, Mexican black bear, visit on his/her way back to higher altitudes. No issues with the bear, truly gust passing by. I had the great pleasure of seeing it.

Beautiful views and would be great remote camping (permit required) in the late fall and really spring. Historical features currently under restoration.
