Only a 2 miles from the tallest bridge in the western hemisphere! We stayed in one of the cabins. Our cabin had one queen bed, a small table with two chairs, a microwave and a fridge/freezer with a prep area. We brought linens to use for the bed and for the bath house. The bath house sat on the opposite side of the playground, but it was clean and Sanitized everyday. Highly recommend staying at this campground, it's quiet!!
Campground is a very short drive (maybe 5 minutes) to the large bridge and visitors center of new river. Sites had good connections for campers of different sizes. If you need a hot shower, the bath house is plenty reasonable and kept clean (easily the best campsite bathrooms/ showers I've seen yet). Staff was accommodating and good to interact with. We would happily stay here again
We only got to stay here for 2 nights, but really enjoyed our stay. It is so convenient for visiting The New River. Lots to explore in and around the area. Chatted with the owners on several occasions, as they are very hands on and attentive - even delivering firewood to our site! The campground is nice, as the spots not all in rows. We met neighbors that were all very friendly, and our dog enjoyed the walks. We traveled with another couple who were right across the drivelane from us and were not looking for a large campground that caters to families, as we empty nesters. Would recommend if you are looking for a smaller campground in the area without all the amenities of larger and pricier campgrounds that are full of families with kids. We hope to get to return to the area sometime to do more exploring and will definitely stay at Rifrafters when we do!
The campground was very clean and accommodating. The office staff was awesome and very attentive. Firewood delivery to your site. Even neighbor campers were great! We will definitely be back!
What a great place! Looks just like the pictures. Staff is helpful, bathrooms are clean. We stayed in the Mountaineers cabin and the details were terrific. Little shelves by outlets to charge devices, ceiling fans, lights above bed to turn on and off without getting out of bed. Wish we could have stayed longer!
We just pulled in yesterday. We were welcomed and brought to our site. Clean, quiet and lovely campground. There's a small pond you can walk to which is a 1/2 mile loop and a longer loop trail as well. They are putting new sites in and it's nice seeing them working on making this park bigger. Did not check out the other facilities (bath house and laundry) because we have our own onboard. There are quite a few really cute cabins as well and plenty of tent sites. Something for everyone. Our big rig fit perfectly in site 3 with plenty of beautiful trees. New River Gorge National Park is only a couple of miles away which is why we wanted to stay here and very glad we did. Looking forward to our week here.
The campsite wasn’t level and the owner fussed at us first thing because he had a stop sign up and we didn’t STAY stopped until he came outside to our car. We didn’t know that’s what we were supposed to do. We realized later there was a sign on our way up the hill that said something to the effect of “wait at the office”. We had just accidentally missed the sign and the guy was super weird and rude about it. A simple misunderstanding could have been handled in a more kind manner. However, I suppose the silver lining is that they watch who comes in and out! Like i said, I just think it could have been dealt with in a more kind way. The location was great other than the noise of the highway. It was pretty loud. Again, that same negative is a plus in that it’s not far from everything. I felt like the price was fine. I probably won’t go back unless I just really need to save money. The bathroom was very far from our site. I believe we were at site five. The site beside us looked more flat as did most of the others.
Great place for dogs! Absolutely loved the pond and outback loops and welcome sight after a long drive to stretch yours and your furry companions legs. For dog lovers this place is a gem because you can get some steps in with tons of sniffing opportunities in nature. The dog park is usable now but under construction and will be welcome enhancement too. Wish there were public trash receptacles around the property in addition to dumpster to make picking up after your pet much more convenient. Our lot was great and the park overall nice and clean although we didn't need use of public facilities they were available. I always wish for more privacy but this campground a great choice overall.
Our family had a great trip at Rifrafters! We got there a bit later than expected but the staff was great and helped us get situated although it was past business hours. Would highly recommend if you are planning a camping trip to the New River Gorge area!
