Introduction / Overview
River Ridge Campground & RV holds a special, cherished place in the hearts of many Texans, particularly those who frequent the serene and quiet Piney Woods region of East Texas. Located near the small community of Tenaha, this site, under the long-time care of owners Jane and Tom, became renowned not just as a place to stay, but as a genuine, "out of the way" retreat and one of the most favorite places on Earth for its dedicated clientele.
However, it is important for prospective travelers to know that the era of River Ridge Campground & RV, as managed by its beloved hosts, Jane and Tom, has officially concluded. The former owners have retired, and the campground as it was known for years has been permanently closed. This announcement, made by the owners themselves, marks the end of a long-standing, well-loved local business that provided beautiful memories for countless visitors.
While the physical location remains, this article serves as a testament to the legacy of quality, cleanliness, and exceptional personal service that defined this establishment. It was known for offering a quiet, friendly, and clean environment, with options ranging from RV spots to nice, clean cabins, and served as a favorite base for excellent fishing, often facilitated by knowledgeable on-site guides.
Location and Accessibility
The former location of River Ridge Campground & RV is situated deep in the beautiful, tranquil country of East Texas at 529 831, Tenaha, TX 75974, USA. This address places it in Shelby County, south of Center and not far from the Louisiana border.
The primary appeal of the location was its "quiet and out of the way" setting, which required a drive off the main highway and into the peaceful, wooded country roads typical of the Piney Woods region. This seclusion was a feature, not a bug, attracting those who specifically sought to disconnect and enjoy the natural environment.
As a rural property, accessibility involved navigating local roads to reach the exact site. While the park accommodated RVs during its operation, its "out of the way" nature meant travelers had to be prepared for the final segments of their journey to be on less-trafficked county roads. For those familiar with the East Texas landscape, this area provides rich natural scenery, often near lakes and rivers, making it a desirable destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

We love coming here. Friendly people and nice clean cabins. Excellent fishing guides.
Jane and Tom have retired and permanently closed the campground. They are no longer in the business. Thank you for the awesome memories! Definitely one of my favorite places on the earth. Jane and Tom are the best. Quiet and out of the way, just the way I like it. Been going for years.
Great place and people . Jane and Tom are great to deal with and place is out of the way , nice and quite. I have never fished with Tom and Jane but have seen the boatloads of fish they and they clients bring in. Have been going every yr for the last ten yrs and look forward to it every yr!
Jane & Tom are good people. Camping there is nice and quite. The road in and out is not to good but the weather wasn't all the great so that's why I gave it. 4 star's. Will go back.
Tried to contact several times to get some information on facilities with no call back. Decided to make the drive to visit to check it out. Was greated at front gate stating closed from June 1 until January 1 2022. Well that's just dandy. So we made round trip of 134 miles . Not good public relations. So don't go. To the owner/management. Change your telephone information.😠🤐
