One of the best experiences in Santa Cruz! Recommended to buy tickets beforehand and come at least 30minutes before the train as it leaves on time. Stay in your seats, they will go the same path front and back, not necessary to change seats. Overall, extremely worth it to come. I don’t need to explain, let the railroad do the explaining. NOT TO BE MISSED! The trees and sights are BEAUTIFUL.
This was such a fun experience! I loved it. We went on a morning ride through some rain, and although we got dang soaked, it was absolutely magical. Things that were helpful for us: 1) the front and the back cars had the seats that faced out, while the middle cars had seats that faced in. Both good, but the middle cars require a lot more twisting. 2) show up early! It's good for peace of mind, plus then you can see the train roll in. 3) if it is raining, you will get wet!! It's part of the fun haha. I brought a sacrificial sweatshirt to dry our seats and we bundled up with rain gear; boots, rain coat, etc. There is some mud in a lot of the walking areas if it's raining too. 4) I think there's only one redwood tour, and it stops halfway through at a lookout point. There are bathrooms there if you need them halfway, seeing as it's a 90 min. Tour. There are bathrooms in the little town as well. It was amazing! The conductor had a great personality, and there was an audio tour that had a bunch of fun facts. The little town is cute, it's great for families and adults alike, and there's food if you get hungry at the store. It was well worth it! I would definitely go again.
We had a reservation on a Saturday and all the rides were booked.. A 75 min train ride thru the woods and docent talking about the engine and the surrounding area was very informative. There are other buildings such as an general store, restaurant, blacksmith shop etc.. You can also learn Morse code if you are interested We can buy food or get food from home/ outside and there are many picnic tables available to use.. An afternoon well spent
Bought tickets online. Nice play to visit if you like trains and the Redwoods. Its family friendly and definitely for the kids.
A lot of fun! Dress warm as most of the area is shaded. 90 minute narrated train ride. Historic and educational.
