After their grueling 18-hour trek up Rocky Ridge, the Willie Handcart Company camped here at the crossing of Rock Creek. That night 13 emigrants died; the next morning their bodies were buried in a shallow grave, Rock Creek Hollow. This was a lovely campsite. Good facilities. The creek was a wonderful site after the long hike here. The area is beautifully maintained, with clear trails and informative markers that guide you through the history of the site. The memorials and historic markers provide a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the pioneers. During the summer months, missionaries are available to share stories and provide additional context.
