Free, first-come, first-served campground great for a Natchez Trace roadtrip. Plenty of spots but only 1 restroom and no potable water—make sure to bring all the water you need. There were some trails nearby but they were overgrown in summer. Otherwise a nice place to stay.
Nice quiet and your have a little privacy since most site have trees between the sites. Most sites have grill, picnic takes and fire pits. Most bathrooms by camping were.xlosed by along the trace parkway they were open. The stars were bright and amazing. No cell reception so it's really quiet except when you get to hear the people blowing the horn ( not car horns)
Very nice campground for quick and easy set up. I have camped here several times and am always setting up after dark. There is enough space for a few tents at every site with fire pit and picnic table. Access to the creek is easy and I suggest trying out the hiking trails as well as visiting the church and old Town site. This is a beautiful and very historic area worth more time and attention.
A beautiful natural gem. Creeks, waterfalls, Indian mounds, and trails in close vicinity. Lots of history!!! I have a lot of memories here as my family frequently camped here growing up. All this park needs is an update. Only one of the bathrooms is functioning and there is only primitive camping in a world of rv’ers. A shame really. There’s so much potential here.
Tent camped here for 11 nights, can stay up to 14 days. Nice free campground, restroom was kept clean and the maintenance/cleaning people were friendly. Flush toilets, no showers, no electric, no potable water. No Verizon service, and another camper said no Cspire either. Had to drive closer to Utica or Vicksburg to use my phone. For the most part it was very quiet, not many campers. I actually spread out over 2 campsites where there were 3 sites right together. Lots of shade thankfully, since it was hot and humid. I did hear many branches falling after the rain, some near my site, made me a little nervous at times. My first time camping on my own, first time primitive camping, and my dog’s first time camping ever. We didn’t do any hiking or sightseeing this time because of the heat and rain and just settling into tent life, but we will definitely come back when it’s cooler! Giving 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons - the restroom by the road is closed which meant a lot of people coming into the campgrounds for the restroom. Wasn’t a real problem but if the other restroom was open it would probably cut down on other people coming through. Although if I hadn’t chosen a site right near the bathroom I might not have noticed so much. And 2nd reason is there was no potable water so I had to drive to Utica or Vicksburg every 3-4 days to stock up on water. I heard from other campers that there used to be potable water.
Great camping for primitive and all sizes of RVs. Very Quiet and Clean bathrooms. The creek was not accessible do to Flood erosion. If you go way down the path there’s a run off of the creek.
We stayed here midweek, before schools let out for the summer. Appeared to be mostly retirees - very quiet. The bathrooms were very clean. Flush toilets but no showers, no potable water. The campsites are large, with trees between sites. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site. It is near the road but not much noise. Gorgeous place - and no fee! I would return in a heartbeat!
Sketchy campground with no water and all bathrooms permanently closed. We originally thought we would leave our trailer here to travel into Vicksburg for a day to review the battlefield, but after watching all of the cars that continuously paraded through the camp, we decided to spend only one night. It's too bad that this campground is in such disrepair, particularly after camping Meriweather Lewis Campground farther up the Trace. NPS, please do something to upgrade this campground!
