This is a quiet and well maintained campground with basic amenities. The bathrooms are the modern state park model with family restrooms and a washer and dryer. There are miles of hiking and biking trails connected to the campground. There is no camp store but it’s 15 minutes from Palatka. We’re already looking forward to staying here again!
Ticks! Please be aware of Ticks here. we have camped many times in Florida but this is the first time we experienced ticks problem. We have a dog and it was our first experience with ticks. Secondly, campsites 30 and 31 and very very small. they say two tents, two cars, 8 people. But these two sites are not meant for two tents. There is no formal place to wash utensils. no water at campsite. Staff was good. Bathrooms were clean. Hot water was always available. Sky is beautiful at night. you can see a lots of stars and constellations.
We had site 37 and it was spacious (3x what I would consider a standard tent campsite), it was close to the bath house (which was clean and tidy), and close to the boat launch and areas for fishing. I was concerned about the atv noise, but we didn’t notice it at all at our site. It’s a great launching point for the springs, biking and hiking. I would stay here again.
I reserved this campground for some friends and I. First of all, the reservation confirmation says you can check in from 3pm until sundown. We arrived at 4pm and the gate was locked with no attendant. We had to come in behind someone and then go back and let our friends in. We never talked to anyone working at the campground or ever officially checked in. The map is pretty much completely wrong on the website, I chose a site that looked like it was in the woods and we ended up in an open field with a large group of about 20 loud kids and adults. Kids went to bed at 9pm and by 11pm their dad was standing over me and my boyfriends tent screaming like he was going to shoot us because we were simply talking "too loud", after their newborn baby screamed all day. It looked like this family literally lived at the campsite. Lastly, The bathroom is about a quarter mile walk for all campsites, so if you really need to go you are screwed. I write this review to not only incentivize DEP to please do better, but also to warn anyone not to camp here because it really really sucked. Reserved 2 nights only stayed 1.
worst campground by far. i’m a teenage boy that stayed with his friends and one of my friends dad and the park rangers do not like teenagers or anyone who likes to have fun, there was poop on the floor a out of order shower and the first 3 days i couldn’t relieve my self in the bathroom in my loop so i had to walk about 10-15 minutes to shower or let alone poop. it was ridiculous, then the camp rangers tried blaming me and my friends for dirtying the bathroom when at the time there was 62 other campers using the same restroom and the ranger tried kicking me and my friends and his dad out of the park because of it without any proof that it was us and the bathroom cleaner cussed us (minors) out for playing music too loud while showering it was 4:00pm when we showered and then when the bathroom did open there was constant screaming babies and poop on the floor, shower and smeared in a stall with a unflushed toilet. it was purely disgusting i never saw a bathroom so disgusting my appetite was gone for the rest of the night. I will never be returning to this site again this place is utterly terrible with the bathrooms and camp hosts thankfully the fwc game warden was a nice and understanding guy and understood that we did nothing wrong and that the host and front office lady (beth) are grumpy old people never returning to this place again don’t go here if you are a parent with teenagers.
