Running Deer Campground Introduce
Running Deer Campground is nestled in the picturesque mountains of Strawberry Valley, California, offering campers an authentic outdoor experience. With ample RV parking complete with electrical hookups, our campground provides a comfortable base for exploring nature's beauty. The area is abundant with wildlife, including deer that frequently visit the grounds.
Our facilities include picnic tables and fire pits for your convenience, though please note that showers are not available on-site. For safety, we recommend storing food in coolers or ice chests within your vehicle to deter bears, as they are known to recognize these containers.
- Natural Environment: The campground is surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, with warm daytime temperatures cooling down at night, creating an ideal camping climate.
- Outdoor Activities: Enjoy nearby lakes for swimming, boating, and fishing. Hiking trails offer opportunities to explore the surrounding forests and hillsides.
- Bear Safety Tips: While we have no trash bins on-site, please secure your food properly to protect both yourself and our wildlife friends.
Customer feedback highlights our prime location for enjoying nature but suggests improvements such as updating fire pits and addressing the condition of restrooms. Visitors appreciate the clean facilities and easy lake access despite these areas needing attention. Many guests also note the presence of campers who may be loud or drive recklessly, though overall, the peaceful setting and wildlife sightings make their experience memorable.

Been here twice now and love it! There are no showers and food should be stored in coolers and bins IN THE CAR! There are bears and they know what a ice chest looks like. It's warm during the day, it's cool at night it is the perfect camping experience!
Visited running deer 13 years ago ! And revisited this weekend! The camp grounds need new fire pits , the bathrooms are getting run down , and no camp host? Other campers were very load until 2 AM, campers where driving in the campground like it was a nascar track , campgrounds are clean and have easy access to the lake , it is a very beautiful area, deer walking throughout the campground was a plus .
It's a great campground. Some sites can be reserved. Others are on come first basis. The lake is nearby. Bathrooms have flush toilets and kept clean. No host in 2022. Beware of bears. Don't leave food outside or in your tent. Unfortunately, only a few sites have bear boxes.
