I love this place! It has a beautiful hike that leads you to a waterfall. You can also camp here and this time I went with my daughters so I just stopped by the bridge. There is a small entrance fee but it's worth it.
The grand view at the beach level below the bridge is a great spot for photos. Down further into the gulch there's a hiking trail and camp sites that will put you into nature. The trail to the waterfall is somewhat long and has some elevation. Not a problem for those who are on the younger side, but it can be more challenging for those that are not quite as young.
Stunning views of the bridge from diffferent vista points along the central road. Shot some infrared photography. Restrooms were present at the picnic areas, with spigot sinks. The beach at low tide is a great spot for a walk and looking at different shells and rocks for local wildlife. The road to get to the beach becomes one lane, so drive slowly and be aware when going down.
Beautiful, lush, perfect state park. Hiked the fern canyon trail to the waterfall after the storm back at the start of February. Winter hiking made it more exciting, as there were plenty of fun obstacles to go over and/or under to continue on the path. From the fern canyon trail, took the shorter part of the loop to the waterfall; one way was about 3.25 miles. I also took the opportunity to look at the russian gulch bridge view, which was amazing. Very much worth the visit, and the fee, to support the state park!
This place is out of the history books. We love getting in here and trying to forget about the outside world. Nice thing is your only 10 minutes from town if you forget something.
