Sagebrush Safari Campsite is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of San Diego County, offering a unique outdoor experience for adventurers and nature enthusiasts. Located on Corral Canyon Trail, this campsite provides a serene environment surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful retreat in the great outdoors.
Known for its dry camping facilities, Sagebrush Safari Campsite offers access to mostly dirt trails with remnants of asphalt, providing a challenging yet manageable experience for RV trailers. The campsite is situated across Corral Canyon Trail from Navy's Camp Morena, offering breathtaking views that unfold as dawn breaks through the fog, revealing the surrounding hills and ridges.
Campers and adventurers have praised Sagebrush Safari Campsite for its natural beauty, unique trail access, and peaceful surroundings. Many highlight the breathtaking views and the potential for future visits if access continues to be granted during special events.
This was a dry camping site. Access was allowed by the land manager for the 2023 Sagebrush Safari race. Corral Canyon Trail is a mostly dirt road with some remnant of asphalt., (The asphalt is in better shape past the campsite.) It was not a difficult trail, but caution was required to negotiate some of the ruts with the RV trailer. (This was after a great deal of rain in early 2023.) Campsite is across Corral Canyon Trail from the Navy's Camp Morena. The view from the campsite was beautiful. From a dawn blanketed in fog, the surrounding hills slowly take form, revealing the eastward facing ridge which hides the intersection of Corral Canyon Trail and Los Pinos Trail, (colloquially known as four corners.) From the campsite, trails wend southward to the lesser ridge that occludes Lake Morena. If the land manager continues to allow access during QnD events, I will continue to camp here.
