Sagehen Meadows Campground Introduce

Nestled in the heart of California, Sagehen Meadows Campground offers a serene and rustic camping experience for those looking to reconnect with nature. Located off the beaten path, this campground is an ideal spot for boondocking, especially for travelers coming from US 6 towards Mono Lake. The peaceful environment, surrounded by natural beauty, provides a perfect retreat for campers seeking tranquility.

The campground is characterized by its quiet and secluded atmosphere, making it a great choice for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. During late July, visitors have reported an almost eerie silence, with no insects or birds, just the occasional sound of deer hooves. This unique setting allows campers to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.

While Sagehen Meadows Campground may not be the best option for large RVs due to encroaching brush and washboard roads, it is well-suited for smaller rigs, such as 25-foot travel trailers. The campground is conveniently located for those planning to explore Yosemite, making it an excellent overnight stop before heading into the park.

One of the standout features of Sagehen Meadows Campground is the thoughtful touch of a pre-built wood stack in the fire pit, allowing campers to enjoy a cozy campfire under the stars with minimal effort. Additionally, the area offers opportunities for off-roading adventures, though visitors should be aware that some trails may be overgrown or washed out.

Customer feedback highlights the campground's unique charm and practical amenities. Visitors have praised the peaceful environment, the convenience of the fire pit, and the proximity to Yosemite. Some campers have also noted the importance of using the correct driveway when arriving, as the first driveway has soft sand that may require 4-wheel drive to navigate safely.

  • Peaceful and secluded environment, perfect for nature lovers.
  • Convenient location for travelers heading to Yosemite.
  • Pre-built wood stack in the fire pit for easy campfires.
  • Great for smaller RVs and travel trailers.
  • Opportunities for off-roading and exploring nearby trails.

Great place to boondock if you are coming from US 6 towards Mono Lake. Eerily quiet when I camped in late July. No insects or birds. Just the occasional hoof beat of deer.

Don’t listen to google maps. The second driveway when heading west is the one to use. Not a great choice for big rigs due to some encroaching brush and washboard roads, but my 25ft travel trailer got through with no problems. Excellent stay the night before climbing into Yosemite. Some kind soul built a wood stack in the fire pit so all we had to do was light it for an incredible night under the stars. Btw, the first driveway has some soft sand and required 4 low to turn around safely. Did some Offroading once we dropped the trailer but the road quickly turns to scratchy brush and washed out trails.
