As a prominent establishment within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, Saginaw Campground in Saginaw, Minnesota, presents itself as a practical and inviting destination for travelers and local users alike. Positioned strategically to offer both convenience and a comfortable outdoor experience, this campground caters to a variety of camping preferences, from overnight stops for road-trippers to longer-term stays for those exploring the wider Northern Minnesota region. It distinguishes itself by providing essential modern amenities alongside a generally quiet and well-maintained environment.
Saginaw Campground is located at 6988 US-2 in Saginaw, Minnesota, making it easily accessible for travelers on this major route. Its location places it just minutes from Duluth, serving as a practical base for exploring the city's attractions and the natural beauty of Lake Superior. While the campground is situated near a road, which can lead to some traffic and train noise as noted by some guests, the overall impression is one of a functional and clean environment, particularly for those prioritizing convenience and access to nearby urban centers and outdoor recreational hubs.
The campground itself is described as being surrounded by lush forests and pristine natural beauty, characteristic of Northern Minnesota. This allows for a degree of natural immersion, even with its proximity to a highway. The park aims to offer spacious sites that provide a sense of privacy and tranquility, allowing campers to unwind and connect with nature, despite being a practical stop. While it may not be deep wilderness, it serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring the wider natural landscapes of the region, including scenic hiking trails and opportunities for fishing and kayaking in nearby areas.
The layout and maintenance of the campground are regularly inspected by the Saginaw County Health Department to ensure compliance with state requirements regarding sewage service, water, drainage, garbage/rubbish, and overall safety, contributing to a healthy and safe environment for residents and visitors alike. This oversight helps maintain the campground's appeal and functionality within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category.
Saginaw Campground prides itself on offering a comprehensive suite of services and facilities, making it a comfortable and convenient option for its guests, whether they are in an RV or a tent. A significant advantage that sets it apart is that all RV sites include full hookups: water, electric (both 30 and 50 amp service available), and sewer connections. This is a highly valued amenity for RVers, ensuring a hassle-free and self-sufficient stay. The sites are generally gravel, and while some reviews mention them being a bit tight or requiring some leveling, the utility connections are often noted as being newer and functioning very well.
For tent campers, dedicated tent sites are available, with reported rates being quite reasonable. While specific hookup details for tent sites are less emphasized, the availability of central facilities caters to their needs. Key facilities that are frequently highlighted in guest reviews include:
- Clean Restrooms and Showers: Many campers praise the cleanliness and quality of the bathrooms and showers, often describing them as beautiful and providing hot water. Access to these facilities might involve a code for security, as noted by some users.
- Laundry Facilities: A very convenient amenity for travelers, the on-site laundry facilities are typically described as nice and well-maintained.
- Caretaker on Premises: The presence of a caretaker's house on the property ensures that any issues or needs can be addressed promptly, contributing to a sense of security and good management.
- Pet-Friendly: The campground welcomes pets, with specific policies regarding the number and size of dogs allowed per site (e.g., one dog over 30 lbs OR two dogs each under 30 lbs). This makes it an appealing choice for travelers with furry companions.
- Membership Discounts: The campground may offer discounts for certain memberships, which can be an added value for regular campers.
While the campground is described as being small with approximately 36 sites, it offers a solid range of amenities that cater to the essential needs of campers, positioning it as a reliable choice in the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" sector.
The key features of Saginaw Campground revolve around its practical offerings and its strategic location, making it an attractive option for a specific segment of campers. While it may not boast expansive recreational facilities typical of large resorts, its value lies in its convenience and cleanliness.
- Full Hookup RV Sites: This is a standout feature for RVers, providing all necessary utilities directly at the site, which is a major convenience for both short and long stays.
- Proximity to Duluth: Being "just minutes" (approximately 15-20 minutes) from Duluth means campers have easy access to the city's myriad attractions, including the Aerial Lift Bridge area, various restaurants, breweries, cideries, and the vibrant arts and culture scene. This makes it an excellent base for urban exploration combined with outdoor adventures.
- Gateway to North Shore: Its location also positions it well for trips up the North Shore of Lake Superior, allowing campers to easily visit beautiful natural landmarks like Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, Gooseberry Falls State Park, and Jay Cooke State Park, which are known for their scenic beauty and hiking opportunities.
- Affordable Seasonal Rates: The availability of seasonal rates (e.g., May 1st to October 1st at $1600 plus electric for 2025) makes it an appealing option for those seeking a longer-term base in the area, or even for snowbirds looking for a summer retreat.
- Welcoming Atmosphere: Reviews frequently mention the friendly and helpful nature of the people at the campground, including the owners and caretakers, contributing to a positive and welcoming experience.
- Small and Manageable: With a relatively small number of sites (around 36), the campground offers a more intimate feel compared to larger, more bustling parks.
While Saginaw Campground might have a higher proportion of long-term campers, it generally maintains its appeal for transient visitors due to its well-kept facilities and convenient location. The focus here is less on extensive on-site activities and more on providing a comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding region.
Saginaw Campground is promoted as a highly convenient, clean, and reasonably priced option within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, particularly for those traveling through or looking to explore the Duluth area and Northern Minnesota. The value proposition is centered on hassle-free camping with essential amenities and excellent regional access.
Key promotional points and value aspects include:
- Competitive Rates: Nightly rates are competitive, with weekday rates around $40 and weekend rates at $45 for full hookup RV sites. Weekly and monthly rates are also available at $275 and $575 respectively, offering flexibility and cost savings for longer stays. Tent sites are even more affordable at $25 (weekdays) and $30 (weekends). Additional person fees ($3 per night, age 3 and under free) and a $15/night fee for an additional tent on an RV site (with pre-approval) outline clear pricing.
- High User Satisfaction: Reviews indicate a generally positive experience, with high ratings for cleanliness, utilities, and friendly service. Campers often commend the clean bathrooms and showers, and the convenience of full hookups.
- Ease of Access: Its location directly on US-2 and proximity to I-35 make it an easy stop for those traveling long distances, often cited as a "great stop" for an overnight.
- Online Reservations: The campground offers an online reservation system, allowing guests to conveniently book their sites in advance.
- Seasonal Operation: Open from May 1st to October 1st, it caters to the prime camping season in Minnesota.
While some campers mention the presence of road and train noise due to the location, for many, the convenience, cleanliness, and the full hookups outweigh this. Saginaw Campground is often seen as an ideal blend of practicality and comfort for those seeking a well-maintained camping spot with easy access to the attractions of Duluth and the natural beauty of Northern Minnesota. It effectively fulfills its role as a reliable and welcoming option within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" landscape.

Customer Reviews
I would never recommend this place If I could give them no star I would it's a dirty park grass needs to be cut, restrooms r nasty. We had a fire pit but couldn't use it cause the camper next to us had there car parked literally next to our fire pit. We called the front to see if they could get it moved and they never called back nor did they move there car. Also there is a bar across the street which i have no problem with untill a guy comes out and starts peeing in the parking lot and exposing himself which is disgusting.I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
One of our favorite places to camp when we go up to hike the north shore. There is lots of privacy, they are really laid back with dogs, and you can buy wood right from the campground. The bathrooms are also so clean and water is nice and warm in the showers.
Beautiful and quiet Campground. Not many spaces. We were lucky.
Friendly staff members and spacious campsites. BE AWARE that this campground is right next to a train track. Not a problem if you can tune out the sounds though. Bathrooms are clean with minor decorations. Legit.
Wonderful campground that is well maintained. Lots of space, great green areas for walking your dog. I'm not sure of the other negative reviews about the noise, we thought it was fairly quiet. We loved our stay. And the WiFi was the best we've had and we have traveled all over the U.S. and Canada.
