  • Unique Fire Rings: A standout feature is the presence of elaborate fire rings with upgraded cooking features. These are not commonly found in national forest campgrounds and provide an enhanced cooking experience over an open fire.
  • Low Use and Availability: One of the biggest advantages of Sailor Lake Campground is its relatively low use. This means you should be able to find an open site without issue, even during peak season weekends. This can be a huge relief for spontaneous adventurers who prefer not to deal with booking months in advance.
  • Flexible Booking: In addition to accepting advance reservations for some sites, you also have the option to simply show up, pick an available site, and avoid any reservation system fees. This flexibility is a significant perk for many campers.
  • Ideal for Tent Camping: With its natural setting and emphasis on basic amenities, the campground is a perfect place for tent camping, offering a genuine back-to-nature experience.
  • Recreational Opportunities: The lake itself and the surrounding forest provide excellent opportunities for kayaking and ATV riding. While there isn't a designated beach, part of the shoreline is suitable for swimming, though it's noted as not being the best swimming area in the national forest.
  • No Electricity or Running Water Bathrooms: This is a highlight for those seeking a truly off-grid experience, embracing the simplicity and challenges of traditional camping.

Quite rustic, some sites offer ample surrounding vegetation and spacing for good privacy. Several walk-in tent sites with a very short walk from car to campsite are the most private sites on this property. There's no designated beach here. Part of the shoreline is suitable for swimming, but certainly not the best swimming area you'll find on this national forest. Several sites have elaborate fire rings with upgraded cooking features not commonly found in a national forest campground. This campground sees relatively low use. You should be able to find an open site without issue, even on peak season weekends. Advance reservations are accepted for some sites but you can also just show up, pick a site, and avoid the reservation system fee.

We always love coming back to Sailor Lake Campground! The ability to park your ATV and UTV next to your tent and ride the connected trail system is amazing. The trails are a ton of fun! Each campsite has its own picnic table and fire ring. There is a central water pump house with fresh water and multiple bathrooms throughout the campground.

I love going up here... Good fishing... But the boat landing isn't in the campsite it is down the road. Also no docks in the campsite but you can park your boat by shore.
