Samuelson Park Introduce
🌲 **Introduction / Overview: Finding Peace in the Northwoods**
For many Minnesotans, the true escape lies in finding those small, quiet places where the wilderness is allowed to speak. **Samuelson Park Campground** is one such sanctuary. Tucked away in the vast, wooded expanse of Koochiching County, near the community of Orr, this site is highly valued by local users for the profound sense of calm and seclusion it offers. As one visitor simply put it, "I always feel at peace here."
Samuelson Park is a primitive, rustic camping facility, meaning it offers a genuine, no-frills Northwoods experience. Unlike large commercial campgrounds, Samuelson Park focuses on providing a basic, safe, and clean place to pitch a tent or park a small RV, emphasizing the surrounding natural beauty over modern amenities. It’s an ideal spot for anglers, hunters, and anyone needing a quiet respite from work or travel in the northern part of the state.
Managed by Koochiching County, the park is known for its simplicity and the courtesy of its local staff, with visitors noting the demeanor of managing personnel—such as the DNR officer being "quick and polite"—contributing to a welcoming environment. With a very limited number of sites, Samuelson Park ensures a low-density experience, making it a treasured spot for solitude seekers in the heart of Northern Minnesota's rich forests and wetlands.

Samuelson Park Campground is situated in the expansive **South Koochiching, MN 55771** area, closely associated with the nearby town of Orr. This location places it firmly in the "up north" region of Minnesota, famous for its lakes, forests, and proximity to the Canadian border and the vast Voyageurs National Park area.
The park's address and typical remote location suggest that access is via a combination of paved highways and well-maintained county or forest roads, which are common in this part of Koochiching County. While specific directions may vary, the campground is listed in the area of County Road 59 near Orr.
As a county-maintained park, it serves the local community and travelers exploring the region, including the Koochiching State Forest which surrounds it. Its geographic coordinates position it within the Northern Minnesota Wetlands and Western Great Lakes Forests classification, promising a unique ecological backdrop for a remote stay.

🛠️ **Services Offered (Minimal and Essential)**
Samuelson Park Campground adheres to a primitive, rustic standard, providing only the essential facilities necessary for a safe and functional camping stay. Campers should plan to be self-sufficient and bring everything they need, aside from basic site structure:
- Campsites: Extremely limited sites, often listed as having only one total site or a very low number, ensuring a private and uncrowded experience. These sites accommodate tents and potentially small RVs/trailers.
- Toilets: Vault or pit toilets (outhouses) are available for basic sanitation. One visitor noted a wish for a door on the outhouse, suggesting a very basic, no-frills structure, though they are generally maintained.
- Water Supply: No water is available at this park, according to public data. Campers must bring in all their own drinking, cooking, and washing water. This is a critical detail for all visitors.
- Site Furnishings: Each site likely includes basic amenities like a fire ring for campfires (depending on fire restrictions) and potentially a picnic table.
- Fees: Data suggests that the general camping fee may be $0 or extremely low, consistent with a very primitive, county-maintained site, though fees are always subject to change and should be verified locally.
- Maintenance: Although primitive, the park is described as "Very clean and nice," indicating good maintenance by the local county authorities.

✨ **Features / Highlights: Solitude and Natural Access**
The primary appeal of Samuelson Park Campground is its dedication to simplicity, solitude, and direct access to the abundant natural resources of Koochiching County. Its key highlights include:
- Unmatched Peacefulness: The campground's biggest feature is the overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility reported by visitors. With minimal sites and a remote location, it is the perfect spot to truly disconnect.
- Low-Density Camping: The park's extremely limited capacity (sometimes listed as just one site) makes it ideal for individuals or small groups seeking absolute privacy and a wilderness feel without the crowds, noise, and light pollution of larger parks.
- Fishing and Picnicking: Koochiching County recreation maps list Samuelson Park as providing access for picnicking and fishing, suggesting a nearby lake, pond, or river. It is also listed as having small boat access.
- High Elevation: The site is listed with an elevation of approximately 1217 feet, placing it in an elevated position that is characteristic of the Northern Minnesota landscape, potentially offering good views and a breeze.
- Koochiching State Forest Access: The park is an excellent gateway for exploring the larger Koochiching State Forest, which is known for its vast peatlands, rivers, streams, and extensive trails for hiking and snowmobiling.
- DNR Presence: Although primitive, the presence of the DNR in the area—as noted by a customer review—suggests the park is managed and monitored, contributing to a sense of order and safety despite the remote location.
- Cost-Effective Stays: The likely absence of fees (or very low fees) makes this an exceptionally budget-friendly choice for extended stays in the Minnesota Northwoods.

Very clean and nice. I am working in Orr and had to stay here until I could get into a motel. The DNR officer who asked me a few questions was quick and polite. Not at all invasive. I wish they would put a door on the outhouse though.
I always feel at peace here.
