What a great campground! It was in the fixer, but had a great tree wind break so I wasn't buffeted all night long. They had fire pits with cooking grates at every spot. It was quiet and the bathroom was clean. I would definitely come back here again.
When I stayed here for a show at the gorge it was great. Not much wind at all. Great little spot to access the river. However the highway going up the hill is about 100 yards away and the semi trucks that frequent the road are noisy. The beach is quite rocky (but not sharp) and slippery in the water so I do recommend some sandals or grippy shoes.
I have never been to this park before, but I must Say that I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is .that have restrooms place close to each other so you not walking a mile to use them . They also have a boat launch, so if you what to camp and boat you have found the place. Even though it is somewhat close to the highway you don't really notice it . This would be a great place to bring your family and friends to the Columbia basin.
We stayed here bc we went to a show at the gorge. It is 20 minutes down the road and is only $20/might. Everything was new and clean. They don't have running water or RV hook ups but they give you a place to chill on the river. The pit toilets were clean and stocked. However, the toilets are metal prison toilets with no seat. It'll do for the doodoo in an emergency. Great phone service. It's right next to the highway so you hear that all day and night, unless it's super windy, then you just hear the very loud wind.
We booked walk in campsite #1 as it had great shade and would be farther away from campers using a generator. The sites were immaculate and pit toilets clean. Quick drive to ancient lakes or Frenchman coulee. Overall, the proximity to the highway was a huge problem for tent camping with semi engine braking on the steep slope constantly. I would not recommend this location and would suggest Rocky Coulee or Wanapum campgrounds on the other side of the river (we checked them all out).
