Sandpit Campground has become a favorite among repeat visitors, with many planning stays months in advance due to its growing popularity. While the site offers great experiences, it is important to note that it caters primarily to off-highway vehicle (OHV) traffic, which may not be ideal for all guests. Additionally, windy conditions and sand tracking are common, so prepare accordingly.
Customer feedback highlights both the positives and areas for improvement. Many appreciate the vendors on-site offering burgers, rentals, and supplies, while others note the need to be mindful of noise levels and OHV activity. Despite these considerations, Sandpit Campground remains a top choice for those seeking adventure and natural beauty in Utah.

This is definitely a place you stay if you don’t mind all of the OHV traffic, as this caters to such and others probably would not appreciate the noise. Spacious sites will fit your truck, fifth wheel and toy trailer. Some sites have hookups and some don’t, so be certain you know what you’re booking. There are restrooms, showers and dumpsters on site, as well as water. Dump station is down the road near the entrance/exit to the park. Park gate closes at 9 or 10 p.m., depending on the time of year, so plan accordingly. I would not suggest tents in this campground. Expect sand to be tracked everywhere in your trailers and vehicles. Windy conditions are not uncommon. I took off one star, as kids on small motorcycles were using the gravel road of the campground as a race track, even after bringing it to the staff’s attention. Very close to the sand dunes and access to the beach is just across the road. We enjoyed our stay and will be back!
This place has gorgeous views and a great mix of off-road riding. There's a vendor at the park with burgers, rentals, and supplies. You can see some of the higher mountains/rocks of Zion from the campground. Riding ranges from pink sand to a few Moab still rocks. The park adjoins blm lands for miles of riding trails. We have been visiting here for about 14 years. It has become very popular. Reservations are now a must have and need to be made a few months in advance.
Great spot. The gate closes at 9pm sharp. If you pre-pay $5 you can get an after-hours code. The bathrooms/showers are clean and the camp host (Leon) is friendly and helpful if you follow the rules. We ate dinner Saturday night at the golf course clubhouse and it was great! We pay for Sunday night and stay all day....why cut the weekend short.
The facility is well organized. There is easy access to all campgrounds. The showers and bathrooms are nice, but when I was there on labor day weekend, only 2 showers were working and 1 of the 8 toilets was out of service. Also. I saw a propane tank that I assumed was for heating water, but every time I checked the shower water at different times of day, the water was never hot. I felt like 4 toilets and 4 shower/toilet for the whole campground seemed like not enough. There were 8-10 people waiting each morning and after dinner. Also I saw many people, probably day use people, coming up from the beach to use the campground toilets. The scenery was beautiful. Easy access to the sand dunes and the beach. The most annoying thing is stupid people. Stupid people trashing the restrooms. Leaving all thier sand and trash all over the restrooms. Running generators during quiet hours. Stupid people running their modified bikes and quads during quiet hours. Stupid people letting their kids ride on the beach with no helmet or no flag. Stupid people racing their machines up and down the beach within 50 feet of other people. Stupid boaters and skidoo riders cutting in front and making large wakes within 50 feet. Stupid college kids blocking the boat launching area, just sitting about 100 feet from the ramp in the water making it hard for the 5 Lanes of boat launching folks to do so safely. Also college kids doing drugs at the cliff diving site. I'm sure law enforcement upped their presence for the weekend... I did see one kid get a ticket for no helmet and another EMT incident close to the beach. But it was still woefully inadequate for the amount of stupid people.
Great experience for off-roaders. We booked a group site and were pleased with the view and with the size of the site, there was room for 4-6 RVs depending on size. You can ride UTV's in the park to the trail, which is amazing because the riding in Sand Hollow is stellar. Walmart is a quick drive outside the park, which was also very handy. We will be back for sure.
