Santiam horse camp Introduce

Nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Santiam State Forest, Santiam Horse Camp offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature while enjoying all the comforts of home away from home. This picturesque campground is perfect for horseback riders, outdoor enthusiasts, and families looking to explore the great outdoors in style.

  • Scenic Location: Set against the backdrop of Oregon's lush forests, Santiam Horse Camp provides a peaceful retreat where visitors can enjoy the tranquility of nature. The camp is located at Gates, OR 97346, offering easy access to an array of hiking and horseback riding trails.
  • Well-Maintained Facilities: Our campground features private sites with ample space for both tents and RVs. Each site offers a unique experience, with some even featuring pull-thru capabilities for added convenience. The corrals are constructed from sturdy 10-inch round logs, providing your horses with plenty of room to move around comfortably.
  • Trail Network: Santiam Horse Camp boasts an extensive network of well-established trails that wind through the forest and connect to numerous other trails in the area. The camp provides detailed maps and clear signage to ensure you never get lost during your adventures.
  • Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite past fire damage, which has since regenerated into a beautiful landscape, the camp remains a serene destination. Visitors often praise the quiet environment and scenic views, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
  • Accessibility: While most of the campground is accessible via gravel forest roads, we recommend using a 4x4 vehicle when transporting more than two horses. This ensures a safer journey over the steeper and narrower sections of the road.

Santiam Horse Camp is more than just a place to stay; it's an experience that combines adventure with comfort. Whether you're an avid horseback rider or simply looking for a family-friendly outdoor destination, our camp offers something for everyone.

This is a really fantastic and recently-reopened horse camp in Santiam State Forest. We just stayed for a night on 7/30 and found it to be really nicely set up in many ways. There's plenty of privacy between sites, well-established trails between and around the campground, and very easy access to tons of different trails. The maps they provide are easy to read and the signage is clear. The corrals are made with beefy 10-inch round logs with just enough space for our horses to comfortably move around. This will be on our short list of places to horse camp. The only minor drawback is that the haul-in route is over gravel forest road, which can be steep and skinny in places. I'd recommend 4X4 trucks to be used for hauling more than 2 horses in.

Really peaceful camp with scenic riding despite the fire damage from a few years back. Nice corrals, roomy sites. I cheated and opted for the one pull-thru site, but even I could probably have backed in to some sites.
