One of my favorite state parks in Michigan. Amazing beach. Even more amazing dunes. It’s hard to imagine how magical it is to walk forest trails that are beautiful, soft, sandy in the shade of tall, tall trees. Maybe not the easiest beach to visit, but that’s what makes it good. Still easier than the dunes at grand mere state park.
Spectacular views and great trails. This was a really special spot, especially during the fall, where you walk from gorgeous trees with amazing colors to a pristine beach, all within a short distance of each other. Parking was plentiful and everyone on the trail in good spirits!
Lovely park to visit if you are already in the area. Easy parking right in front, decent trails in the woods that lead to lake beach area. But be prepared to walk 15-20 minutes. Trails can be sandy and steep in areas. We did not explore many of the trails, only to the beach and back. I was highly disappointed in the water here, lots of algae, water was green and not in a good way. Warm and shallow. Swim at your own risk. Not sure if like this all the time, we visited in late August.
We enjoyed our time here. Some parts of the trail heading to the beach needed a little more work done to it. A roller after grading would make it much easier for older people and those pulling carts or using strollers. Very pretty the whole way, and a beautiful beach. Can't speak to the rest of the Park, but we did like it here. We would go back in the future. Recommended! -MVP
The hiking trails here are fantastic! You can walk various distances to get to the beach! The south trails are a bit longer, but very beautiful! Perfect for all season hiking as well. There are pit toilets at the parking area.
