Scarlett Knob Campground Inc Introduce
Scarlett Knob Campground Inc, a privately owned and operated establishment, holds a distinguished position within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, particularly appealing to those seeking a blend of secluded natural beauty and convenient access to extensive outdoor adventures. Located on a scenic hilltop adjoining the vast 20,000-acre Ohiopyle State Park in southwestern Pennsylvania, this campground offers breathtaking views of the Youghiogheny River Valley, establishing itself as an ideal base for exploring the region's renowned recreational opportunities.
The environment at Scarlett Knob Campground is one of its most celebrated attributes. Campers consistently praise the privacy and natural immersion offered by its sites. Each camping site is thoughtfully situated within a wooded area, providing a sense of seclusion and being "far away from other sites," allowing guests to "feel alone" and enjoy a peaceful retreat. This wooded setting provides natural shade and enhances the rustic camping experience. Overlooking the scenic Youghiogheny River Valley, the campground offers picturesque vistas that contribute to its serene atmosphere. The natural landscape is further enhanced by the presence of an on-site fishing pond, adding to the tranquil ambiance. The campground is also committed to environmental preservation, with policies against moving picnic tables, fire rings, or rocks, and a strict "Do Not Move Firewood Order" to prevent the spread of invasive pests, demonstrating a responsible approach to maintaining its natural environment.
Scarlett Knob Campground provides a range of services and features designed to accommodate various camping preferences. All sites, whether for tent or RV camping, are "wooded" and come equipped with a designated area for tents, a picnic table, and a fire ring, facilitating traditional camping activities. For RV campers, the campground offers sites with utility hook-ups, including electric and water connections. While information on sewer hookups for all RV sites isn't explicitly detailed across all sources, some reviews mention utility hookups for RV weekends, implying availability for some sites. It is important to note that specific details regarding maximum RV length for accessibility vary, with some suggesting suitability for Class C or small trailers and advising caution for anything over 30 feet due to potentially rough and unpaved roads. The campground features two types of restrooms: one with hot, coin-operated showers, sinks, and pit toilets, and another with flush toilets and sinks. While some reviews suggest these facilities could benefit from more frequent maintenance or upgrades, their presence provides essential amenities for campers. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available, allowing guests to stay connected despite the natural setting.
Beyond the basic site amenities, Scarlett Knob Campground offers several key features that enhance the camping experience. A fishing pond, for which no fishing license is required for campers, provides a convenient and accessible spot for recreational angling. A large recreation field offers open space for various outdoor activities and games. The campground is notably pet-friendly, welcoming dogs on-site, though they must be kept on a leash (4 feet or less) and attended at all times, not left unattended when guests leave the grounds. This policy caters to the growing number of campers who travel with their furry companions. For group outings, particularly for organizations like Boy Scout Troops, an "open Terrace Area" is available for specialized group camping. The campground's office doubles as a small store, offering essential items like snacks and ice for purchase, adding a layer of convenience. The staff are frequently described as "friendly" and "pleasant," contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The reservation system allows for one-night reservations (except on holiday weekends requiring two nights) and specific site requests, offering flexibility for guests planning their trips. The campground also allows portable grills and fire pits, provided the area is cleaned and fires are attended. A strict noise policy ensures excessive noise that disturbs other campers is not permitted.
The strategic location of Scarlett Knob Campground is a significant promotional asset. It is "adjoining the 20,000 acre Ohiopyle State Park," making it an ideal base for exploring the park's renowned attractions. Ohiopyle State Park is a hub for outdoor activities, including extensive hiking and biking trails, and thrilling white-water rafting opportunities on the Youghiogheny River. The campground is approximately 0.8 to 2.4 miles from the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) bike trail, offering convenient access for cyclists. Nearby attractions also include Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural masterpiece, and various local eateries and shops in Ohiopyle town. The promotional messaging implicitly highlights the balance between a serene, private camping environment and the accessibility to a multitude of high-energy outdoor activities. The campground's affordability, as noted in some reviews, also serves as an attractive factor for budget-conscious campers. Positive feedback from returning campers, who consider it their "go-to" weekend campground, strongly reinforces its appeal and reliability.
In summary, Scarlett Knob Campground Inc provides a compelling option within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, particularly for those valuing a private, wooded camping experience. Its environment offers secluded sites and scenic views, ideal for relaxation and connecting with nature. Services include basic utility hook-ups for RVs, restrooms with showers, and a small on-site store. Key features such as a fishing pond, recreation field, and a pet-friendly policy enhance the guest experience. The campground's prime location, directly adjacent to Ohiopyle State Park, serves as its strongest promotional point, offering campers immediate access to a wide array of hiking, biking, and whitewater rafting adventures, making it a comprehensive destination for outdoor enthusiasts in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Customer Reviews
Came here this weekend and had a great time. Very quiet campsite. Much more spacious than the state campsite up the road. Staff was very friendly. Will definitely be coming back.
We had a great time! Our site was secluded and we had a port a john close by. I loved that the firepits were rocks and not metal rims. Bath/shower house was clean and did the job. Thank you Candy for being so nice and letting us change sites after our arrival! We also loved the office cat Chaos! We will be back! Thanks again for a great experience!!
Super friendly people run this campground. We came in on an October evening and we had the place to ourselves. The sitesare beautiful and spacious. We used the pit toilets and they were very clean for what they are. No road noise just nature sounds. Super peaceful after a long drive from Northern Illinois. If we are back in the area again we will defintley camp here.
Beautiful wooded sites. Gravel, nice hand stacked stone fire pit for an enjoyable fire. Quiet and private during the week. Nearby OPSP bike path, falls and several amenities in Ohiopyle. Kind of strict with 11 am checkout. You MUST BE GONE BY 11 or they will charge you for that day too. We like to have the leaving day as our pack up ready to go. Everything is away, unplugged, we literally are sitting playing games at the table. But we couldn't do that and the attitude was pretty rigid . There were many sites open around us . Rules are rules but I think check out should be 1-2. These sites are no fuss. Pay showers are 25¢ / few minutes so bring quarters. And it's nice to have 30 amp for our little camper but there is not a dump station for sewage / grey water. We have been here 3 times now. It was relaxing and a good place to camp if you like more primitive wooded sites.
Secluded, private, secure, and spacious. Great for basic camping/adults. Spotless bathrooms at the entrance. Seems to always have availability, which is why we returned. Friendly staff. The office could be more inviting; the porch is a mess. The office store does not offer more than ice and firewood.
