Very busy during the peak season as it is a lovely NYS campground on Schroon Lake. I like to go in the off season, park outside the gate & enjoy the grounds which include the beach & the old ruins of the amphitheater
I came here for a mini-vacation to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday in early September. We stayed here for 2 nights at site #60 and we had an absolutely amazing experience. The staff were some of the most polite I've met, the landscape is stunning, and the sites were very well maintained. The town this campground is set in is one of the most beautiful examples of quaint small town America I've seen. It's one of those places where everyone knows each other's name and everyone is super friendly. I loved going in to the small "main street" area and going to all the small businesses along the street. This campground is far from any large population center, but there are several stores such as Dollar General about 10 minutes down the road which has everything you would need for camping inside it. The closest walmart is also about a 40 minute drive if you absolutely need it. I absolutely do not recommend this campground for children, I see many complaints on other reviews saying "my kids didn't enjoy it here" and "there wasn't anything fun to do here." There are very few activities available at this campground, so you have to be the type of person who enjoys making their own adventure and prefers to go off the beaten path to enjoy your stay here. All-in-all this is the most beautiful and quiet campground I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. It is a absolute hidden gem. For every camper who wants to do some REAL camping with a tent and despises those "glampers" and their cushy RV's I highly recommend sites #60 and #55. Thank you!
Never stayed overnight but often stopped there with the boat. They have often let us use the bathroom stopping in without charging us to use dock space etc. There is also a really nice area that you can pull up to and hang out that's a natural beach.
We really enjoyed this camp ground. At first I was a bit worried with the openness that I would not like it but we stayed on a good note which had lots of privacy. The entire campground is really clean and nice to walk through. We did not even put on bug spray because they where non-existent. The beach here is a bit small for a lake so big but overall it's a great campground. You can purchase wood right outside the gates for 5 dollars a bundle. There is also a cool old ampitheater that you can explore. Def would recommend and I will be going back
Fairly new campground right before you enter Schroon Lake village. Very quiet with lake access, kayak rentals, boat launch, beach, etc. Also day use for the public. Three camping loops, 2 out in the open, one secluded in the woods. Can accommodate large trailer/5th wheels to tents. No power on sites. Good bath houses with outdoor sinks and hot showers. New York can be proud of this one
