Beautiful and quite boondock site. Fire ring and plenty of dry wood for firewood. Great spot before entering Boulder / grand Staircase-Escalates NM.
This is what I've known as "Primitive Camping" now known as Dispersed Camping. A few rock fire rings, no tables, no toilets, no trash cans. Heck, there isn't even a sign! NO FEE either! Keep an eye out for the "road" in, on the easterly side of the 12. Google Maps was pretty accurate for the entrance. If you are self contained, this is a great spot amongst the trees with some flat spots to park or put your tent. The road in is quite rocky but should be no problem for pick-ups and SUVs. Cars should be careful and all should go slow. We drove all the way in to an old irrigation ditch that looks like a nice creek now. Great spot. As always, Pack it In, Pack it Out!
Very primitive and I would not take a car into the camp grounds without walking it first. Definitely a carry in / carry out location. Overall perfectly adequate for a one night tent camp just come prepared. I definitely needed Google to find the turn off.
9600 feet at peak, nice views. In April still snow on ground and campgrounds. Road slower going due to turns.
Road is a mess. Lots of rocks. Do not use if you have low ground clearance. Currently stuck in the mud and can't get out.
