Family Camping Activities for All Ages: Games, Hiking, and Campfire Fun
Explore family camping activities that bring all ages together, from outdoor games and scenic hikes to memorable campfire fun that creates lasting memories.
Schipper Campground offers a unique and picturesque camping experience nestled near the mouth of the canyon, providing an ideal base for families and groups looking to explore the great outdoors. With fewer than 10 campsites available, Schipper Campground provides a secluded and intimate camping atmosphere, ensuring a memorable stay for all visitors. The campground is strategically located near Rock Creek, which gently flows through most of the campsites, adding a touch of natural beauty and tranquility to your camping adventure.
Each campsite at Schipper Campground is equipped with essential amenities, including a table, fire ring, and designated parking spot. These facilities are thoughtfully designed to cater to both casual campers and outdoor enthusiasts. The campground's layout ensures that guests can enjoy nature while maintaining their comfort, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a balance between adventure and convenience.
One of the standout features of Schipper Campground is its unique campsite #4, located behind the restrooms on the left side. This site offers a "swimming hole" in Rock Creek, perfect for families with children or pet owners who want to enjoy the shallow, slow-moving water during their stay. While this site requires guests to carry tents and supplies approximately 200 feet down a gentle hill to reach the camping area (unlike other sites where parking is available), it provides an unparalleled opportunity for swimming and wading in a natural setting.
Schipper Campground prides itself on its affordability, charging only $5 per night, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. The campground's small size ensures a more personalized camping experience, with fewer crowds and a closer-knit community feel among campers. With limited availability, visitors are encouraged to reserve their spot in advance to avoid missing out on this hidden gem.
The campground has received positive reviews from guests who have praised its cleanliness, tranquility, and affordability. Many visitors highlight the charm of this small, family-friendly campsite, which offers a genuine outdoor experience without compromising on comfort. The limited number of campsites ensures a more private and immersive connection with nature, making Schipper Campground a favorite among returning visitors.

Closest campsite to the mouth of the canyon, this site is great for families and groups. There are less than 10 campsites offered at Schipper Campground, and it does have a vault toilet. There is a gentle creek (Rock Creek) that flows through the back-side of most of the campsites. Each campsite has a table, a fire ring and a parking spot. Spot #4 (Behind the restrooms to the left) is the largest and has a "swimming hole" which is great for kids and pets as the water is fairly shallow and slow moving during most parts of the year, however it is the only campsite that does not allow you to park immediately at your spot, you must carry all tents and supplies a distance of about 200ft down a hill to reach the camping area. Beautiful area!
Great little campground! There's only a few campsites here so it can be difficult to snag one. $5 per night.
Cool spot up the rock creek road. Awesome fishing.
Very nice place to camp! I hope everybody will help to keep beer cans and garbage picked up and out of the stream! The bathrooms were awful and unusable due to other irresponsible campers!!! Let's keep our campgrounds clean everybody!
Had a really fun time taking my senior pictures down here! They turned out great! This also is one of my favorite places to camp!
