Absolutely beautiful location. Hands down a piece of heaven on earth. I definitely suggest a vacation to the Kingdom of Seboomook. Norm and Whitney are just the nicest and go above and beyond for all campers. I look forward to our yearly girls' trips and enjoying the beautiful scenery, wildlife, and relaxation. I am definitely looking forward to summer 2025 for our next trip.
I can not say enough good things about Seboomook Wilderness Campground! We are a family of campers and have been to so many different campgrounds and this one truly gifted us with exactly what we needed: being able to shut off the stress and noise from our busy lives and focus on connection and being present in a truly special place. This is real camping. Nothing glamorous other than the views (whoa!) because camping shouldn’t be that, there is no WiFi (other than at the store) which was a blessing for our family. We haven’t been able to shut off electronics, television, social media, etc. in a long time so being able to just sit and relax with each other while watching our kids actually play together with their imaginations is just what we needed. Bringing me back to the good old days! We rented canoes and the river was the most beautiful place that I have ever experienced. Truly. So peaceful, the river was untouched, like a mirror to the woods and trees and we were even able to see some wildlife out there. I read the reviews around the dirt road and yes, it’s not like people are shouting of excitement to go down it but if you take it slow and prepare for the long drive than it really is not bad, it’s just a long road. Advice to all: get gas, and make sure to bring all the things/food that you will need because you are no where near a store other than the camp one which is small but they have some snacks, worms for fishing and gas. We just viewed this as another bonus for us. We came packed and prepared and didn’t have to spend 50% of our time running around to local stores and not being able to slow down like we tend to do at other campgrounds. We are already planning our next trip and can’t wait to get back out there. Thank you for sharing this special place!
So beautiful. Be sure you are prepared for driving about 32 miles (at least 1.5-2 hrs) on dirt roads. Northern road is pretty rough in sections but nothing that most SUVs, trucks and crossovers can't manage. The owners are friendly and sites are very clean. Facilities are rustic so temper your expectations and enjoy the beauty of the north Maine woods!
Stayed at the Shoreview Cabin recently. It was a very good fit for us. There was a propane stove and a propane fridge on the back porch. There are more modern led lighting in the unit powered by a battery within the unit. Running water was a plus. I rented the unit expecting not much more than a plywood tent, but was pleasantly surprised by the features offered. There are a couple of cabins full of accomodations including electricity and a full bathroom, but this cabin had a great view of the lake and was far away from other campers. I absolutely loved my stay. I wished I had booked a few more days. The drive is worth it. This is literally a slice of heaven for people looking for a peaceful place to camp with some amenities that you would not get elsewhere. Off grid, but connected for a few hours if needed. I have found my new yearly camping spot. Cabin or tenting... This place is worth the drive.
My husband and I absolutely LOVE camping and do it often. This was our first time at Seboomook and unfortunately we will not be returning. The flies were sooo extraordinarily awful that we had to drive 4 hours round trip to the nearest town to get a small bug tent. If we would have known or been informed that we would be so deep into the woods that the flies were awful and that it was recommended to bring a bug tent, we would have. If there was anywhere on the website that we were 2 hours away from the nearest substantial town, we would have called to make sure we had everything possible with us. Also, little did we know, there is absolutely NO SERVICE, so when we were trying to fix the situation the best we could, we were unable to call any stores in any towns to see if they even had any bug nets available. We spoke with many other campers who also stated how terribly they were getting eaten alive but luckily they had their campers but who wants to stay in their camper all day long when you're camping! On the positive side, it was a GORGEOUS scenery, but unfortunately we could not enjoy it. I hope after reading this review, Seboomook would update their website to let their guests know that not only are the deer flies and black flies and no-seeums extreme and truly brutally attack from 10am-8pm and to come prepared for that situation because they are sooo deep into the woods, but also that the campground is extremely remote and you will not have phone service within an hour of the campground and no significant stores within two hours of the campground. This campground is sooo remote, that you drive an hour and half on a dirt road and on our way out, we even saw someone with a camper who ran out of gas on the dirt road. And we love being remote, as long as we are aware of it and can come prepared. These are all things that could be given to the guests to help them come VERY prepared and have a better experience.
