## **Introduction / Overview: Digging into the Cretaceous in West Alabama**
**Shark Tooth Creek Outdoor Adventures** is a privately owned and operated facility near Aliceville, Alabama, dedicated to providing a unique, hands-on fossil hunting experience alongside basic outdoor recreation. The core attraction is the opportunity to wade into a creek bed and discover fossilized shark teeth and other marine relics dating back to the late Cretaceous Period (over 66 million years ago), when this area was an ancient ocean shoreline. This makes the experience not only fun but highly educational, illustrating Alabama's deep geological history.
The facility caters heavily to **group visits**, including scout packs, school field trips, and family reunions, and the activities are generally led by the owner/tour guide, Ken Owens, who is known for his enthusiastic and energetic style. Visitors typically begin at a central pavilion before being transported via a **"Shark Tooth Creek Express"** (an open-air trailer or hayride) to the creek beds. In addition to the main fossil hunt, the property is set up for complementary outdoor activities, including basic camping. The overall experience is designed to be a blend of high-energy fun and genuine scientific discovery, guaranteeing that guests—even those on short excursions—will find a handful of ancient souvenirs to take home.

Customer Reviews
If I could give zero stars, I totally would. My son went to Shark Tooth Creek today, and the owner/tour guide, Ken Owens, actually encouraged him and some of his classmates to climb a tree for a photo. After that, he jumped down and accidentally splashed water on other people, to which the owner responded, "Hey Dummy." This type of behavior is completely absurd and totally unacceptable. He should not be permitted to interact with children at all.
Such a cool adventure! We went with our cub scout pack and camped two nights, really clean well maintained grounds. Mr. Ken was awesome and kept us all laughing! He went above and beyond for our kiddos to make sure they had a wonderful experience!!! Our pack found tons of teeth and fossils at the creek, if your looking for a fun educational trip for your group/pack this is a great time!
We greatly enjoyed our visit with our 3+5 year old and will definitely be back, next time incl. tent for camping! There is a basic toilet/shower setup, firepit and whole lot of calm. Activities besides the obvious sharp teeth excursion includes swimming in the catfish pond + ziplining for the kids (not a steep or fast ride, children up to 10 years of ago may think it is fun).
Always a great time! Bring a jacket for when you're standing around listening to the history and the instructions. You can leave it in the car when you go down to the creek. Wear wet shoes or boots, and clothes that can get wet and dirty. Bring a change of clothes and shoes, for yourself as well as your kids, and several warm towels to leave in the car when you return to the hilltop. Bring plastic bags for shark teeth and wet clothes. No concessions, so bring snacks or lunch in the car. When the children get down to the creek, they will be wading in the creek collecting shark teeth...or if your kid is anything like mine, diving into the creek. They will pick their 10 favorites to take home as a souvenir. T-shirts are also available for purchase. Mr. Ken is a wonderful storyteller and engages the children at every turn. I've been twice and there was even more magic and mystery this time. This place is such a treasure. I regret I didn't take many photos at the creek itself, but I had put my phone in my backpack while we were in the water for fear of dropping it.
Great grounds for camping. The kids had a blast. The creek was full of shark teeth.
