Shellrock Creek Campground Introduce

Shellrock Creek Campground is a hidden gem nestled in the scenic foothills of Oregon, providing a perfect blend of tranquility and accessibility for nature lovers. Located along NF-58 in Estacada, just a short drive from Portland, this campground offers a unique opportunity to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life while being close to urban amenities. With its lush surroundings and well-maintained facilities, Shellrock Creek Campground is an ideal destination for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in nature.

One of the standout features of Shellrock Creek Campground is its beautiful environment. The campground is situated near Shellrock Creek, offering campers the chance to enjoy the serene sounds of flowing water and the fresh mountain air. The area is known for its stunning natural beauty, with dense forests, rolling hills, and abundant wildlife. Whether you're looking to hike, fish, or simply relax under the stars, the campground provides a picturesque setting for all your outdoor adventures.

Shellrock Creek Campground offers a variety of services and facilities to make your stay comfortable. The campground features a garbage dump, making it easy to dispose of waste properly. Each campsite has a basic but functional toilet, ensuring that guests have access to essential amenities without compromising the natural experience. Some campsites also have running water nearby, which helps reduce mosquito issues and adds to the convenience of staying at the campground.

One of the unique aspects of Shellrock Creek Campground is its emphasis on self-sufficiency. The area provides plenty of fallen wood, allowing campers to supplement their firewood supply without needing to purchase it elsewhere. This not only saves money but also supports sustainable camping practices. Additionally, the campsites are large enough to accommodate multiple tents, making it an excellent choice for families or groups traveling together.

Shellrock Creek Campground is a relatively small operation with only 8 campsites available. While this adds to its charm and intimacy, it also means that during peak camping seasons, sites can fill up quickly. Visitors are encouraged to book in advance to ensure availability, especially on busy weekends. The campground's secluded location also means there is no cell service at the site, adding to the rustic charm of the experience. However, Estacada, the nearest town, offers basic amenities and services for those who need to connect.

Shellrock Creek Campground is priced competitively, with a nightly rate of $19 per campsite. Additional cars parked on-site are subject to an extra fee of $8 per vehicle beyond the first one. While this may be a consideration for some campers, many visitors find the value outweighs the cost, especially when considering the convenience and natural beauty of the location.

Customer feedback highlights both the strengths and areas for improvement at Shellrock Creek Campground. Many guests praise its quiet atmosphere and well-maintained facilities, which contribute to a pleasant camping experience. One long-time visitor mentioned that they have been coming here for over 25 years and plan to bring their grandchildren in the future, emphasizing the campground's timeless appeal. Others appreciate the availability of basic amenities like garbage disposal and running water, which make camping more convenient.

However, some reviews note a few drawbacks. The limited number of campsites can be a disadvantage during peak seasons, requiring early planning to secure a spot. Additionally, the lack of cell service at the campground means that campers need to plan ahead for communication, especially if coordinating with groups or family members.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Shellrock Creek Campground remains a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts. Its combination of natural beauty, convenient location near Portland, and unique charm makes it a top destination for camping trips in Oregon. Whether you're seeking adventure or simply want to unwind in nature, Shellrock Creek Campground offers an experience that caters to all types of campers.

I have been coming to this campground since I was in high school with my family. Over 25 years now. I won't camp anywhere else! (If I have any say in it!) This is a beautiful, quiet, well kept campground. (well kept starting in the last year or so....) I will bring my children's children here.

This camp site has a lot of pros and a few cons. Pros - Has a garbage dump, has a built out hole in the ground toilet, running water near some of the camp sites cuts down on mosquitoes, Plenty of fallen wood to supplement your first wood supply. Some of these sites are very large and can accommodate up to 5+ 2 person tents. This site is also only about a hour and a half away from Portland. Cons - There is only 8 campsites at this location so its a bit risky on busy camping weekends if you don't have someone scout ahead of time. No cell service at the site (which I actually like) means meeting up needs to be planned ahead of time (Estacada is the closest town with service). Last its a bit expensive for this site running at $19 per night and $8 per additional cars beyond the first one.

Loved this campground. We were right on the water, far from the parking lot, was quiet and peaceful.
