Last minute booking. Had a snafu on arriving late but also they took care of it. Nice place. Steep drive in and foggy. But the views the next morning were great. Nice little light house. Black sand beach to see on the other side of the community. The rv park had lots of grass, full hookups, showers and a deli. (Not open while we were there.
Had a terrific time, food was great, staff very efficient and nice. Saw three different types of whales. Played the 9 hole golf course around the airport. Walked the beaches and searched the tide pools. Amassed at the different verities of fish caught. We took a 30' Mallard trailer, behind our F150, went slow down the hill and had no problems and returned back uphill, no issues. Already planning for a return next year.
Road to this site is not for RV beginners. Unhook your towed vehicle at the 101 hwy and have someone drive it the 27 miles. Road is winding and gas up to 9% grades. Make sure you have brake fluid and other sundaries as there is a small general store as well as the on site deli, but they are sparsely supplied. Beautiful area but we were under the impression it was closer to the hwy and this 27 mile drive will take you an hour at the least. Black sand beaches, seclusion, and great Jeep trails!
I had a great time here. Micah let me ship my backpacking food out here, and it allowed me to continue on my journey! My stove gas tank and battery in my headlamp went out, when I was in the wilderness and he gave me a spare battery and gas tank free of charge. Aurora made me a great hot chocolate and let me charge my phone and portable battery. I’m so thankful for how nice everyone (James and Gabby as well) was at the deli and didn’t make me feel like a bother. Now I can continue on my journey knowing I’m fully stocked on my provisions! Thank you so much!
After a pretty wild drive coming in off the highway, my dog and I arrived at Shelter Cove. Many, many spaces for tents and RVs. They're one right next to the other, but they're all a pretty good size to themselves. Services are clean and well arranged within the campground. Our hosts for that day were very friendly and helpful. I loved the food at the deli (and my dog loved the "pup patty" they made for her as well!). I had the chance to speak with the owner of the property (I was told by the staff) when making my reservation and she went out of her way to handle a few issues (not related to the campground itself) that I was having. The location itself is phenomenal. There are a number of hikes up to scenic locations along the coast within short drives and even those within walking distance were beautiful. I wish I had a chance to explore more, particularly the nearby Maker's Collective (fiber artist here).
