We absolutely love coming here. The staff is extremely friendly (we love you Anne!) and the cabins are always clean. We go to just relax at the lake, watch the sunset, and hike through the woods with the dogs (they’re dog-friendly!). We also love watching the deer every evening and morning. It’s our little slice of heaven on earth. Did I mention that they make a mean over medium egg breakfast on the weekends! So worth the visit!

We recently visited Shepard Recreation Annex, a campground specifically for military-related personnel, and were impressed with its cleanliness and natural beauty. The campground is well-maintained, with clean facilities that include two showers and two stalls in the women’s bathroom, while the men’s bathroom has one stall, two showers, and a urinal. Additionally, there is a laundry room available for campers. The front office personnel were very friendly and welcoming, adding to the pleasant experience. One of the highlights of our stay was the frequent visits from deer, which added a charming touch to the serene atmosphere. All the campsites offer stunning views of Lake Texoma, making for a picturesque setting, especially during the breathtaking sunsets. However, the campground is quite isolated, with the nearest gas station 15 miles away and no stores nearby. It’s important to come prepared with all the essentials. Also, be ready to deal with insects, as they are common in such a natural setting. While the location is perfect for water sports enthusiasts, there are limited activities available for those without a boat. We ended up leaving early because we were looking for more activities to enjoy. Overall, Shepard Recreation Annex is a great spot for a quiet, nature-filled camping experience, particularly if you enjoy water sports and wildlife. Just make sure to bring everything you need and be ready for some isolation

Went to the annex to check it out to see if it might be some place we would like to bring our trailer to stay awhile. Roads getting in are not the best. Got there and it has a gate with hours posted on when it is open. Do not believe the sign. It was a Sunday afternoon about 1400. The sign states gate hours are 0700-1700 Sun-Thur. It was a little before 1430 and we tried to get out, THE GATE WAS LOCKED!!! The person running the place did not work the hours posted. Luckily I found a person that was staying in one of the trailers that was able to unlock the gate and let us out. Sounds like it is common for the person to not work posted hours. I heard they only might have one person to work all those hours. I could see a lot of potential in the Annex but I can see it is under utilized by the lack of people there. Might be best to shut it down. Most cabins looked run down but they also had some that looked very new. Not a lot of trailer spots but they did not look bad. Keep in mind you will be locked in or out because of the gate hours if you stay here.

My family has been coming here for years. Through thick and tin, hard times and floods, this place always bounces back. The cabins are small, but neat, clean and decently supplied. Give it a try, we think you'll like it.
