This is Noah B from ND. He caught his first bass. I told him I'd post his picture. I hope you find it Noah. Nice fish and God bless!
Made a two week long roadtrip out to see some national parks, Glacier, Yellowstone, Badlands, and mt Rushmore on the way to badlands. We stayed here for 1 night and I’ll say this was the most Mid to probably worst campsite we had. The view was JAWDROPPING. We got in around 7:30, without knowing there was a South campground and a North campground. Can you guess we went to the wrong one first? The women at the north camp host, was very nice, but incredibly irritated that we were on the wrong campground. I’m assuming it’s because there’s NO CLEAR DIRECTION for a north or south, and she had to redirect multiple parties. also no service so if you go to the wrong one, good luck getting to the other. We finally go to the South end. The people who checked us in gave us vague intrusions on how to find our site and failed to give us a Camp Map. Mind you there are over 100 sites on the south end. The camp host on the south end also ignored multiple complaints about a site that had a generator on late into the evening.
The water was like glass when we arrived around 8. We saw cranes, turtles, minnows, goose and goslings. The absolute highlight as far as wildlife goes is that we saw a bald eagle swoop down, catch a fish and fly back to its nest. Phenomenal. We rented kayaks, which were Old Town Vapor Anglers. The kayaks were tippy and didn’t track well, but we would rent them again. As of 5/17 park admission is $7 for a day pass. The road to north shore was under construction and appeared closed but was definitely open for you to get to the boat rentals.
Pretty lake. Boating, kayaking, swimming are some options to spend your day. It has got a store and boats are available on rent here.
Great Lake to visit! My wife and I brought our kayaks along for our honeymoon. We kayaked many of the lakes in the Black Hills and this one did not disappoint. It is a large lake so be aware there will be powered watercraft out there with you. Tones of great sites from the water and a few great points to beach up and take a hike. We did not fish this lake but saw many fish. If you’re looking for a lake that has views, good water, swimming spots, fishing and more this is definitely worth your time!
