Shirley Creek Campground Introduce

**🛶 Introduction / Overview: The North End Gem of Lake Sam Rayburn**

For Texas residents who consider the **Piney Woods** and **Lake Sam Rayburn** their ultimate outdoor playground, **Shirley Creek Campground** stands out as a foundational, full-service destination. Located directly on the northern end of Sam Rayburn Reservoir—Texas's largest lake and a premier bass fishing hotspot—this facility offers an unparalleled combination of direct water access, diverse lodging, and essential amenities. Operating as the Shirley Creek Marina Campground & RV Park, this location is embraced by the stunning, dense woodlands of the **Angelina National Forest**, providing a scenic backdrop for every visit.

Shirley Creek caters to all types of outdoor enthusiasts, from dedicated anglers with big rigs and fishing boats to families seeking a comfortable lakeside cabin getaway or a simple tent camping experience. Guests consistently praise the **helpful, attentive, and accommodating camp personnel** who strive to ensure a comfortable stay, reflecting the best of East Texas hospitality. While some older infrastructure, such as certain restroom facilities, has been noted as run down by previous visitors, the management is focused on providing reliable service and an excellent overall experience. The park is a favorite for those who prioritize water activities—be it **fishing, swimming, boating, or simply unwinding** by the shore. **🗺️ Location and Accessibility: Deep in the Angelina National Forest**

The highly valued location of Shirley Creek Campground is one of its most defining features. Situated at **23177 FM 226, Etoile, TX 75944**, the park is nestled deep within the natural environment, approximately six miles off the main highway, ensuring a truly serene and quiet experience away from road noise. This strategic placement on the north end of the reservoir provides convenient access to both the vast lake and the miles of wilderness within the **Angelina National Forest**.

Accessibility is direct, via Farm to Market Road 226, leading straight to the waterfront. While the remote location enhances the sense of escape, it requires travelers to be prepared for navigation on winding, wooded roads. However, once you arrive, the camp's setting is perfect. It serves as an excellent launch point for exploring the national forest's extensive trails and provides the quickest route to the northern coves and fishing grounds of Lake Sam Rayburn. For RV owners, be advised that the deeply wooded setting means some RV spots may be **"extremely tight"** for maneuvering larger rigs, as noted by customers, requiring careful attention during entry and parking. This is a common trade-off for staying close to the water in such a richly forested area.

This was a great place to camp close to the water. The bathroom structure was very run down and full of wasps. The staff was very accommodating and relaxed. The water was low when we went and only about 6ft deep across the whole lake and you sunk a lot at the waterline getting in and out. There are not fire pits, grills, or tables at most of the sites and not even room for one. The RV spots are extremely tight to get in and also just for playing outside around your site, but the spot next to us was empty and they were fine if we played in that spot. Overall, I would definitely come back but there are a few minor cons.

We had a very comfortable stay here the camp Personnel were helpful attentive and always there for us. We were in the woods so the Wi-Fi was a little weak however we were still able to communicate outside. I highly recommend this place for fishing swimming camping boating and relaxation. Very nice location and great fishing, but tent camping is pretty terrible here. Rented a spot based on the provided map for 2 nights. Tent camping is unmarked lots which is fine, in which we were near the water which was great for fishing. But there is little to no control on parking, so what you end up with is 5am-9am trucks with trailers parking on the tent campground, constantly waking you up, and drivers with no regard for campers. Would wake up to trucks parking within my camping space and by noon, no less than 10 trucks with trailers parked right next to my tent and car, one time even blocking my exit so I couldn't drive out of my camping spot. All the boaters treated the tent campground as overflow parking. Campground would be smart to put up a fence surrounding the tent area to stop this from happening but that leads to the next issue. The marina has great business due to the location, so they put little to no money into maintaining the property. The campground restroom is HORRID. Completely run down, filthy, unmaintained, graffiti, it's really bad. Not only that, but the restroom is about a 15 minute walk from the tent campground which makes bathroom trips a nightmare. But hey, drive to the bathroom right? No, because the property has extremely tall speed bumps that would damage any cars that aren't an SUV or pickup truck. If you camp with a Wagon or Sedan, you'll be forced to do a 15 minute walk to the disgusting bathroom multiple times a day. Very miserable experience for tent campers in an otherwise decent camping space. If you're a trailer or RV camper, it's pretty nice and the restroom is no problem for you. But as a tent camper, I would avoid this campground.

It's quiet peaceful and beautiful. Camping rates are very reasonable. There is a wash house for your clothes and a bath house to take a shower. A bait shop to catch fish. The employees are very friendly and helpful. You can go fishing, swimming, boating. They have daily, weekly and monthly rates. If you are looking for a great quiet, peaceful and beautiful place to set up a camper, go swimming or fishing then Shirley Creek Marina and campground is the place for you.
