Awesome Camp Seite. If you are lucky you can get one of the cliff sites and you can just watch down vertically to see the Thompson River, the railway and the Highway.
Sorry long read … For outdoor enthusiasts… come on back to Skihist Provincial Park … 58 FCFS … not in BC Parks reservation system 👌…. The Catastrophic Lytton fire of May 2022 resulted in the park to be closed for 2 years … it reopened a month ago thanks to the very hard work of one Park Operator Wayne Cross 2023 and this year … thankfully for the fire responders the actual campsite was very fortunate to have only a few sites damaged … today campsites all ready for campers to enjoy, all flush washrooms working, sani station working, still a boil water advisory (as it is in many PP), no campfire ban thus far, hiking trails open, the forest to the river side still darkened but as nature does .. it rebounded with beautiful wildflowers, shrubs, birds etc … the trains roll past for viewing (and not obnoxiously loud at all), the Thompson River below offering fishing and one of our past favourite things to do, river rafting adventures with certified companies just moments down the road .. for families with children lots of exploring and bike riding too .. plenty of warm weather, great sites and adventures … just sad to see this park so unoccupied.. over the weekend only 12 campers.. tonight only 5 … wifi is exceptionally strong, cash only $23 Maybe BC Parks should consider offering long stay camping here .. just to get campers back to the park and the surrounding area .. it’s a beautifully stunning area!! BC Parks… Park Operator Wayne Crosse… — at Skihist Provincial Park.
We stopped in the rest stop on the way down from Clinton. Well maintained, shade, washrooms, picnic tables. We weren't there long but snapped some pictures and stretched our legs. Worth the stop.
Huge level sites, paved road, lots of sites, Sani dump, potable water, great spacing, very quiet and private, cement steps to WASHROOMS, picnic area across Highway for large gatherings, camp operator has added personal touches.. Solar lights on some paths and potted plants dotted around. Great site for any size trailer, tent or any. Well laid out and labeled hiking trails which I'm sure would be great for pedal bikes by the looks of it.
Gorgeous park, warm weather, great placement for an overnight rest. Park host was a bit curt, but she keeps the park amazingly clean and beautifully decorated with flowers and lights. There are flush toilets and cold water sinks with soap, but no way to dry your hands so bring a towel! Cold water rinse-off showers are provided, and water taps and refuse bins are well distributed throughout the area. Camp sites are spaced out well and nicely sized. Only insect pest we had a problem with were wasps; there are huge swarms of them and they can get aggressive. At night, the stars blanketed the sky in a wonderous display you will never see near a city. Across the highway from the campground is the picnic area and Thompson Canyon overlook... GORGEOUS. We will definitely return!
