I camped at site#1 last week for one night. This campground only has 16 sites and site#1 and 2 are a bit secluded from the rest. Site#2 nobody had shown up and I was solo camping, so, that became a somewhat spooky experience for me especially with the campground host warning of Bears roaming close to the campsites. It was my dream to camp at slough creek and stay in the heart of the Serengeti of North America! The creek flows right beside site#1, I was able to photograph Milky Way Galaxy on my phone, saw a couple of bisons across the creek at 5am. The wolf den look out point is 1 miles away. There is a golden eagle nest as well nearby. So, it was indeed a special experience. The campground has no water so please bring your own. Giving it 4 stars because of the eerie and extremely lonely nature of site#1. Also, people don't cancel it and then don't show up which prevents those who tried to reserve but couldn't to stay here.
Looking for a car campground in Yellowstone that feels a little more like the backcountry? This is the spot. A few miles down a bumpy, pothole ridden, dirt road and you’re there. Farther away from the crowds, this campground boasts a scenic mountain backdrop, lulling sounds of the creek, and stellar views of the night sky. Plus we even got treated to nature’s alarm clock one morning: a whole bison herd stomping and grunting through the campsite at 0600! Perfect location for an early start for prime wildlife watching in the Lamar Valley. Slough Creek trailhead is nearby as well. Pullouts along Slough Creek road are great for catching a sunset. No potable water at the moment, so fill up before you come. Pit toilets. We expected no coverage but did get some spotty cell service.
Overall a great area for fishing and wildlife, can't wait to go back! Host was nice, people were friendly.
Spent 3 nights! Had coffee with a Buffalo on the Buffalo River. Remote. Great animal viewing area nearby. Awesome campground hosts Rustic not for the faint of heart. BRING BEAR SPRAY AND BUG SPRAY. 🔥 and smoke helps keep the bugs down. ❤️ Yellowstone Did I mention to bring bear spray 🤔 Grizzly territory
We just used the day camp area but it is a beautiful spot in Yellowstone! There are some spots that give the kids easy access to splash in the river. Further up, bring your fly rod as there is some world class angling for those willing to make the hike. The campground doesn't seem to get the same amount of pressure as most of the other park campgrounds do. It is a little out of the way but well worth the visit. Nice vault toilet on site. One of my favorite places to take the kids and have a picnic in the park.
