Snag Lake Campground Introduce

Welcome to Snag Lake Campground, a rustic camping destination located in Sierra City, CA. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Snag Lake Campground offers a natural and straightforward camping experience by the lake.

Situated in Sierra City, CA 96125, Snag Lake Campground provides access to a scenic lakeside environment. According to customer reviews, the campground features approximately 8-10 campsites located very close to a boat ramp. Amenities include fire pits and vault toilets. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, making it a spontaneous camping option.

However, campers should be prepared for certain conditions. Due to the proximity to the lake, mosquitoes are prevalent, so DEET is highly recommended. The area is also known to have bears, requiring campers to store food in bear canisters and cook away from their campsites. It is a pack-in/pack-out site, emphasizing the importance of keeping a clean camp to avoid attracting bears. Additionally, if fires are permitted, bringing a saw is recommended due to the abundance of downed trees.

Despite these considerations, reviewers have expressed positive experiences, particularly during holiday weekends like Labor Day. The natural setting and basic amenities provide a straightforward camping experience for those seeking a rustic getaway.

For local users seeking a rustic lakeside camping experience, Snag Lake Campground offers a natural retreat. Be prepared for bears and mosquitoes, and remember that it is a first-come, first-served campground. Plan accordingly and bring necessary supplies for a comfortable stay.

8-10 camp spots very close to boat ramp. Fires permitting, bring a saw for loads of downed trees. DEET is a must due to the close proximity to the lake. Beware that bears are in the area and found loads of evidence. Cook away from camp and store all food in bear cans. This is a pack-in / pack-out site so keep a clean camp to avoid bear visits.

Just spent Labor Day weekend there. It was great. Firepits, vault toilets, first come first served. Would stay here again.

This campground is great but doesn’t have a lot of accommodations- which is fine with me. I went on a Sunday-Tuesday in September so it was very quiet. I am not sure how busy it is on weekends though. Pros: free, right on a small pretty lake, fire pits, tables, clean vault toilets Cons: no flushing toilets, no water, no reservations, no camp host, I wouldn’t swim in lake but you ca man take small boats/kayaks

Forest service says this isn't used but it is packed. Very few sites. The site areas aren't marked but there's some boundaries. Not all sites have tables. Fire pits are man made rock rings. The roads are full of rocks, low clearance vehicles not advised. Great area.

If you like mosquitos, wasps, tarantulas, and loud people, then go for it. Bring fly strips and air freshener for the bathroom. There's no drinking water or dumpster here. And the lake has leeches too.
