Convenient lake campground that I use EN ROUTE to other destinations. Have stayed here several times and always enjoy the stay; meet nice people and love to hear the frogs all night long. Beware frogs will get in your gear if you leave anything out. (Accidentally transported one home w/ me and found him hopping around my kitchen floor.) The decent sized lake is covered w/ lily pads and vegetation and not for swimming. Obviously red necks use this camp, as I've seen bullet holes in the new steel bear boxes. (idiots I say, alcohol was involved) I personally have never experienced rowdy campers, but the signs are there. RVs like this place cause the entry road is ALL PAVED. Horse campers and motorcyclists also love this camp because of the easy access.

The ranger are nice, but the camp has no garbage service, they don't clean out the toilets. There lake water is not able to swim or fish. The local town people are quite high and mighty feeling about themselves. They don't take to outsiders well.

When I visited Snake Lake about a two years ago, the lake was very shallow, covered with floating foliage and the only species of fish we caught were black bullhead catfish. About half of the catfish we caught had bizarre growths on them. If you plan on visiting Snake Lake during the warmer months I advise that you bring some bug repellent since the mosquitoes were pretty nasty.
