For those of us in Pennsylvania who crave a blend of serene nature and modern comfort, Somerset Resort & Campground offers an ideal retreat. Nestled in the peaceful landscape of Friedens, within the breathtaking Laurel Highlands, this destination (formerly known as Rainbow Woods Campground) has been transformed under new ownership in 2024 to provide a truly elevated outdoor experience. It's designed for locals like us who appreciate the beauty of our state's natural surroundings without having to compromise on luxury and convenience.

Somerset Resort & Campground is not just a place to pitch a tent; it’s a thoughtfully developed haven featuring a mix of modern cabins, cozy A-frames, charming log cabins, and well-equipped RV sites. The emphasis here is on providing a quiet, relaxing atmosphere where guests can unwind and reconnect with nature. Reviews consistently praise the tranquility of the property, with visitors highlighting how "quiet it was" and describing it as "a beautiful, peaceful property—perfect for a quick weekend getaway from the city."

What truly sets this resort apart is its commitment to a comfortable and luxurious experience, even for those accustomed to traditional camping. Whether you opt for a sleek A-frame with gorgeous lighting and big windows, or a spacious RV site with full hookups, the goal is to ensure a rejuvenating stay. The Laurel Highlands are renowned for their stunning natural beauty, including rolling mountains, lush forests, and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities. Major roadways, while not directly adjacent to the immediate quiet property, provide easy access to the region. This means campers can effortlessly reach the resort and then embark on adventures to popular local spots.

For instance, one review specifically mentions returning tired after a day hiking at Laurel Hill State Park, indicating the close proximity of this popular state park, which is a significant draw for outdoor enthusiasts. Other regional attractions like Flight 93 National Memorial, the Great Allegheny Passage, or even the ski resorts of the Laurel Highlands are within a reasonable driving distance, allowing guests to balance their serene retreat with exciting day trips. We had a wonderful stay at this A-frame #10 house! It’s located on a beautiful, peaceful property—perfect for a quick weekend getaway from the city. The area is quiet and relaxing, and we loved that it was dog-friendly. After spending the day hiking at Laurel Hill State Park, we came back tired, and this cozy A-frame was just what we needed to recharge. We’ll definitely be back and are excited to try one of the other houses next time for a different view. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a serene escape with nature all around!

Beautiful area with some gorgeous modern clamping spots and cabins. The cabin we stayed at was the Luna cabin (#14) and was perfect. It has a fire pit outside with chairs, grilling utensils for making s’mores and burgers and you can buy fire wood and fire starters at the central community spot. I think our favorite part was how quiet it was. The lighting in the cabin is gorgeous with the big windows. And the size of the kitchen, bed, couch etc. is very thoughtful and perfect for two people. Just bring a board game, a book, some stuff to grill and maybe a dvd player to hook up to the TV with some library DVDs and you’ll have a lovely weekend.

What a wonderful winter escape! My husband, 4 year old and I were able to take some time to ourselves and regroup as a family. We chose Somerset Resort and Campground. The inside of our modern tiny home was aesthetically pleasing while comfortable and very clean. We walked into a warm living room when we first arrived which was a delight as it was extremely cold. The kitchen is perfectly stocked with all the items needed to cook and coffee was provided! Our daughter was enchanted to find the shower in the bathroom and she promptly got in and proceeded to sing in the shower for 20 mins. The bedroom was spaced out and allowed three people to move around easily as well as a large closet with iron and ironing board. The next day we decided to explore the surrounding area. We visited Flight 93 National Memorial, Remember Me Rose Garden and Flight 93 Chapel. These were emotionally charged locations where we thanked God for all the heroes who sacrificed their lives and mourned for all those who lost their lives. We took some time to go to explore different lookouts and found the James W. McIntyre Trail but it was too cold to hike far with our daughter. We discovered a lovely shop called Snida’s Cornerstore near Indian Lake and ate a delicious pizza. We arrived back at the campground and enjoyed the playground! There was a gorgeous outside bathroom and shower house that I wish was in my house. It was stocked with anything you could need. We hope to return when it is warmer weather to further appreciate all that is available. Thank you for allowing us this luxurious opportunity.

Somerset resort is amazing!! It’s unlike any other campground that I’ve been to, it’s more like a boutique resort with beautiful cabins and the location is stunning! The Aframe #12 has a beautiful view and the most amazing wood fired hot tub ever ♥️ I’ll be visiting again and again!!

Our family had an amazing experience at Somerset Resort. The setting is so peaceful and serene! We stayed in one of the log cabins which fit our little family perfectly. They included everything we needed including a Breeo fire pit with a grill grate to cook our food on. We hiked the Allegheny Passageway that crosses the beautiful Salisbury Viaduct and also visited the Flight 93 memorial. We love the memories we are creating here with our family!
