Customer Reviews
A fantastic 5-star campsite! We stayed for three nights and were thoroughly impressed. The staffs were incredibly friendly, and the facilities were top-notch. The washrooms and showers were spotless, and the dishwashing station with hot water was a great convenience. We loved our site along the river, where a swan visited us every afternoon. We’ll definitely be returning!
Sooke river campground is one of my favorite spots to go. This weekend we got to see some beautiful bears and there cubs. Unfortunately people were very rude and disrespectful to these animals. I understand everyone wants to see the bears, but do you really have to turn your flashlights on and in there faces. In one photo our dog was very interested in the bears, but she was so quiet and just watching them which was amazing
This campground is close to Victoria for the ferries and also for further exploration round the coast. The campground is in an unenviable position on the river. The pitches are flat, some are in the open others have a little privacy - not much. It's basically a field with a few trees. I understand it's a community (municipal) campground. Very popular with local people, especially at the weekends and for events. Communication before our stay was non-existent. Phone and emails were unanswered. We went anyway as the website showed vacancies. We had a friendly welcome and were given the chance to choose our site, which was nice. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The toilet block for the field is housed in an old Portakabin and really needs replacing. However the shower block and toilets near the reception (and sani-dump) is brand new and kept spotlessly clean. Coin operated showers. There's a nice playground for kids, undercover picnic tables / kitchen area. Our last night was ruined by drunken youngsters screaming, swearing and arguing loudly until midnight about 10 feet from us 😡 @grandrovervoyager
For a first timer to a private camp site, I'm very impressed with the attention to detail and the friendliness of the staff. There were a few pride flag logos around the main entrance, so i'd assume they're very accepting. I overheard its also not for profit. We picked a decent site right on the edge of the water that night. We were able to get just a single night, instead of paying for multiple that we weren't going to stay for. It ended up being the most premium experience of our weekend. Lots of wildlife - we saw a king fisher bird, a seal swam in the area, some otters, geese, dogs on paddle boards, a Large friendly looking Swan came by, and that totally caught us off guard. They do sell wood for $10/milk crate of wood. 3 crates lasted us all of one night. This was appreciated as we had limited space and could not bring our own wood, or propane fire pit. There was wifi, dvds to watch for the night, and books to borrow while you were there. Multiple washrooms - and they were clean, as well as a playground, hammock (or anti-stress station i think as they called it :D ). Overall it was clean and i felt good being there. My mother in law who has not camped in 25 years said she would definitely come back to this place again, possibly even next summer.
The staff are very friendly and cheerful. The river side area is open but spacious. Showers and bathrooms are very clean and roomy. It was beautiful having a campfire by the river with a delivered bundle of wood we purchased at the front. Would camp here again for sure!
