Did the specimen creek hike and attempted to do a 2 night backpack. Got to spend a night and day in a literal mosquito hatchery. If we come out without malaria, count us lucky. Note that we stayed at WD1 the first night and the bugs did not decrease in intensity as we tried to hike out the next day. Cannot stress enough that no one at the backcountry office we talked to, when reserving the backcountry sites, informed us that this area would be so bad. Literally could not cook or eat dinner, or exit our tent, due to the swarm of mosquitos that ignored all clothes and bugspray.
