Spruce Hollow Campground Introduce

As a distinctive offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, Spruce Hollow Campground provides a truly unique and specialized experience in Northern Michigan. Located approximately 30 acres just south of Traverse City, near Mesick, this private campground distinguishes itself as Northern Michigan's premier ladies' club and only clothing-optional (nudist) campground. This specific focus caters to a niche market within the camping community, emphasizing a relaxed, safe, and judgment-free atmosphere where guests can comfortably embrace a naturist lifestyle. Its inclusion in a broader platform highlights the diverse range of services and environments available within the camping and RV park industry, extending beyond conventional family campgrounds to cater to specific adult-oriented preferences.

The environment of Spruce Hollow Campground is designed to foster a sense of tranquility and liberation. Spread across 30 acres, the campground is set within a wooded area, likely featuring a mix of evergreen spruce trees (as its name suggests) and other deciduous trees native to Northern Michigan. This natural setting provides a sense of privacy and seclusion, allowing guests to feel comfortable in a clothing-optional environment. The "hollow" in its name might suggest some undulating terrain or a naturally secluded valley within the property, further enhancing this sense of privacy. While not explicitly detailed as having specific water features like lakes or rivers on-site, the natural forested surroundings offer opportunities for peaceful walks and enjoying the quietude of nature. The climate in this part of Michigan features warm summers, ideal for outdoor activities and clothing-optional living, and experiences distinct seasons, with fall bringing vibrant colors and winter transforming the landscape into a snowy retreat.

In terms of services, Spruce Hollow Campground offers a variety of site types to accommodate its specific clientele. The majority of sites are described as "rustic," indicating that they primarily offer a cleared space for tents or smaller RVs without direct hookups. These rustic sites are generally available on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing for spontaneous visits. For those requiring more amenities, a limited number of "power sites" are available, offering electrical hookups for RVs. Given their limited availability, reservations for power sites are strongly recommended to ensure accommodation. Each site, whether rustic or power, likely includes basic amenities such as a cleared area for setup and possibly a fire ring or picnic table, though this is typical for campgrounds of this nature and not explicitly detailed for every site type. A significant service feature is the presence of a bathhouse. This facility includes four lavatories and six flush toilets, along with two outdoor showers that provide hot water, a crucial convenience for guests. The campground is also pet-friendly, allowing guests to bring their "furry friends," which is an important consideration for many travelers. While not explicitly stated for all sites, the presence of trash receptacles and Wi-Fi are indicated, suggesting efforts to provide modern conveniences within a natural setting.

The defining features of Spruce Hollow Campground are intrinsically linked to its unique identity as a nude/naturist camp primarily catering to ladies.

  • Clothing-Optional Environment: The most prominent feature is that nudity is allowed throughout the camp. This creates a relaxed and accepting atmosphere for individuals and couples who embrace the naturist lifestyle. It is clearly stated that "nudity is allowed throughout Camp but play is not in public view," ensuring a respectful and appropriate environment.
  • Ladies-Focused Camp: The campground is specifically positioned as "Northern Michigan's premier ladies club." Ladies receive free day passes and qualify for discounts on camping, making it particularly appealing for female guests. Men are welcome but only if accompanied by a female, reinforcing the club's focus and providing a perceived sense of safety and comfort for women.
  • Adult Camping: The campground is an adult-oriented environment, ensuring a mature and respectful atmosphere. While not explicitly excluding all minors in general descriptions, the "adult camping" and "ladies camp" designations imply a focus on an adult demographic seeking a specific social and recreational experience.
  • In-Ground Swimming Pool: A significant recreational feature is the 20' x 40' in-ground swimming pool. This offers a refreshing way for guests to relax and enjoy themselves, with thirty chaise lounges surrounding the pool deck for sunbathing and socializing. The pool is open until dark, providing ample opportunity for enjoyment.
  • Expansive Property: With 30 acres of land, the campground offers ample space for guests to spread out, find privacy, and enjoy the natural surroundings. This acreage contributes to the secluded feel and allows for various rustic camping opportunities.
  • Pet-Friendly: The welcoming policy for pets enhances the appeal for many campers who travel with their animal companions.

From a promotional information standpoint, Spruce Hollow Campground leverages its distinct identity as a clothing-optional, women-focused, private adult campground in Northern Michigan. Promotional messages are direct and clear about the type of experience offered, appealing to individuals and couples who are part of or interested in the naturist and lifestyle communities. The emphasis is on creating a "very relaxing atmosphere where ladies can feel safe and free from being bothered," appealing to a sense of security and freedom. Promotional channels include their dedicated website and potentially niche forums or directories for naturist/clothing-optional resorts. Key promotional points often include:

  • "Welcome to Northern Michigan's Nude Campground – Spruce Hollow: Where freedom and relaxation embrace the natural you."
  • "Ladies, discover your premier retreat! Enjoy free day passes and exclusive camping discounts at Spruce Hollow Campground, Northern Michigan's only ladies' club."
  • "Experience unparalleled comfort and acceptance in our clothing-optional adult campground. Find your serene escape among our rustic and power sites."
  • "Relax by our in-ground pool or explore 30 acres of natural beauty, all within the safe and welcoming environment of Spruce Hollow Campground."
  • "Embrace the ultimate liberated outdoor experience at Spruce Hollow Campground – a pet-friendly haven for naturists and lifestyle enthusiasts alike, just south of Traverse City."

Pricing information, as seen in some promotional materials, is often structured with varying rates for day passes and overnight stays, differentiating between rustic and power sites, and offering discounts for multi-night stays and complimentary day passes for ladies. Seasonal operation (e.g., opening in late May) is also clearly communicated. The focus of the promotional material is less on traditional family activities and more on the unique social and personal freedom offered by a clothing-optional, adult-oriented environment. This clear communication helps ensure that guests arriving at Spruce Hollow Campground are well-aligned with the park's atmosphere and offerings, contributing to a harmonious and enjoyable experience for all.

Appreciate the nude life style and this camp being clothes optional, place is empty even on a holiday weekend, very quiet/remote. pool was nice heated but not warm, no dump station, 300 foot water hose and bad tasting water, Guy running it has no organization skills but does know how to collect $60 a night. Grounds are not kept nice, lots of over grown brush and dirt path ways. Nobody there to greet us and show us the way to a site, no map, unlevel sites. I will never come back again $30 a night is just ok but $30 for a cold pool no thanks.

This was one of the best campgrounds we have ever been to, and one of the best cared for. If you are a first timer, you won't find a more welcoming place. The regulars here are amazing, and will get you settled on the rules, and comfortable. The owner and his wife are absolutely top notch, can't thank them enough for the amazing way they run this place.

This is my first visit to a nudist campsite. I have been to a nude beach before so I knew I'd be able to get comfortable after some initial nervousness. I arrived on a Sunday at the end of July and am leaving on a Tuesday. Not exactly an ideal time to come if you want to meet like minded people who understand the great values Naturists have with regards to the human body and, well, being naked. The end of the week and weekends get considerably higher amounts of traffic here. This was the only time that worked in my schedule so what was I going to do... The grounds and layout are meticulously taken care of. The owners love this land and it shows. I got to talk to Pat, the owner, for a couple hours. I really enjoyed the story and vision he and his wife had for this place. I admired how they were able to follow through on creating this oasis. They designed this place and it shows. The campsites are well shaded, nicely kept and cozy. They are nestled in the woods along a windy path. Once you set up your tent (in the nude...so awesome), you put your pants back on for a minute and drop your vehicle back into the lot. I like that because it gives a different feel to the sites. The downside for me was not having my phone close by at night charging...which is also a great thing. The campsites don't have fire pits. At first I was not a fan of this situation. After talking to the owner though it makes sense for this property. I camp all over by myself at traditional campsites and enjoy my privacy. I enjoy cooking my food over the fire I built in my iron skillet. After a number of years I have yet to wash it... You can still cook your own food at your campsite you'll just have to bring a small gas grill (which is actually a huge time saver :)) This is place is a community. They have a large gas grill and a beautiful community fire pit with a drop down movie screen. The point of this is to be nude, social and comfortable in a safe environment. The pool and pool area is ridiculously serene. Well maintained. Clean water. Clean lounge chairs and tables. Surrounded by Mother Nature and her tall trees. It. Is. Beautiful. Taking an outdoor shower... amazing. I'm putting one at my house as soon as I get home. I apologize to my neighbors in advance. Jk... I won't apologize. What is more natural than bathing outside??? Total game changer. The details... too many to name but I'll try: wood carvings, cedar buildings, DJ booth, the office with a river through it, the thousands of stones thoughtfully placed around the property, the lighted paths, the raspberries all over the place, the clean facilities, the owners and how great they are, the jagermister bottle trees, the (well kept and clean) American flags everywhere, the flower pots with flowers that are actually living, the mulched trails, the game yards, etc etc - so nice. Perfect. The grocery store a few miles away is subpar. That's my only complaint really... I like good organic produce and meats. You can get the necessities but if you can - Plan accordingly. Here's my only other thing about this place... I've been here essentially by myself for the last two days... 1. I should have brought someone... I get it. The nudist life is best shared with friends. This was an impromptu trip and I'm really not looking forward to having "the conversation" with anyone yet about this... except with you of course. 2. For a fraction of the total summer campers it's hard to fill these places up during the work week I imagine. 3. This place is visited by hundreds of people each summer. However, no one wants to review places like this because who wants their coworkers and/or grandma to know they like to walk around with their Willy or lady bits out for all to see. Honestly, I'm in that group... for now. 4. Try it out... when you are comfortable. I'm almost 38, male and straight. It's tough to make that initial mental investment and commit to going. The owners have a clear goal to make this place safe and welcoming. Hope to meet you next time I visit!

We love camping here. This will be our second year coming here. It’s so freeing to be naked in nature! What a clean place and it has a heated pool!

When we made phone reservations for this campground the person assisting was very nice at first. However, when we got there we were greeted on the road and asked how old I was. A bit confused by this because their website nor the person I talked to said anything about an age limit. And from that point in, we were treated very rudely. We traveled two hours to get there, after getting a site, we were made to feel very uncomfortable. We spent the entire weekend in our motorhome because we were so uncomfortable with this campground. There were several people just outside our motor home plugging in things to the electricity where we were plugged in. We had ventured down to the pool area once only to be made to feel like a fresh piece of meat. We have never returned nor will we ever return or recommend this campground to anybody having their first experience. We even got a XXX show, right in front of us, while having our morning coffee. However, We have found a clothing optional Family campground -Forest Hills Club-here in Michigan that their sense of community & friendship is unbelievable. We have also met other people here, that also had a negative experience at this campground. Overall, it was an expensive very unsatisfying time.
