Introduction / Overview
For North Carolina residents who know and love the Outer Banks (OBX), particularly the unique charm of Hatteras Island, the St. Clair Landing Family Campground in Rodanthe is truly a treasured find. This is not your typical sprawling resort experience; rather, it’s a refreshing return to the authentic, community-focused beach camping that many local users yearn for. It’s a small, privately owned destination where the focus is firmly on relaxation, friendly faces, and the spectacular natural setting.
The core appeal of St. Clair Landing is its perfectly laid-back, "no frills" atmosphere. It is sound-front, providing direct access to the calm waters of the Pamlico Sound, which means guests are treated to some of the most beautiful sunsets on the East Coast. It stands as a "hidden gem among the big resort campgrounds across the street," offering a quieter, more personal touch.
Real customers consistently rave about the exceptionally friendly environment and the strong sense of community. The staff, like Patty and Pam mentioned in reviews, are known for being sweet, helpful, and accommodating. The campground even hosts memorable communal events, such as a customer-praised Fourth of July fish fry, demonstrating the welcoming spirit. Whether you are tent camping or rolling in with a large RV, this location promises a peaceful retreat with minimal noise, no golf carts kicking up dust, and maximum fun. St. Clair Landing is the preferred basecamp for those who believe the best part of the OBX is its unspoiled nature and welcoming island hospitality.

Love this place!!! This family campground is no frills and tons of fun! It's super laid back, well maintained, and extraordinarily friendly. The campground owner hosted a fish fry for the 4th, and everyone brought side dishes and lots of fun and laughter! Beautiful sunsets almost every day and love watching the kiteboarders out on the sound. Patty is so sweet and very helpful. This is THE BEST place to stay in the OBX!!!
A small privately owned campground near Rodanthe, NC on Hatteras Island. If you're looking for an big resort type campground, this probably isn't for you. It's nothing fancy, but it's nice and quiet and the people (staff and campers) are very friendly. Loved the outdoor showers at the bathhouse when we returned from the beach. No worries about golf carts riding around at all hours kicking up dust and making noise. Pam answered any questions we had and was very helpful. This is truly a hidden gem among the big resort campgrounds across the street. Beautiful sunset views on the sound. A short distance from restaurants and shops. We will definitely be back.
We just spent 5 days here and Loved it!! Such a nice small campground that is not over run with campers! If you are looking for a huge place with lots of people it is definitely not your place. Right on the sound with amazing sunsets and the manager… Kelly, couldn’t be nicer!!😊 We have already booked to return and I am sure we will come back many more rimes in the the future!! Our new favorite place!!😊👍🏻😊
This was a great no frills campground. There were a few shining stars here. First was Kelly. She is amazing, friendly, and so helpful. 2nd was the beach area with steps to the water where you can launch your kayak and paddle boards. 3rd the best sunsets ever. If I had any “cons” it would be the ladies room had no way to dry your hands after washing them.
Nice quiet campground with a good location to see everything. We enjoyed our time here, but would not recommend it for long rigs. Tight turns make it difficult to get in and out. Lots of seasonal sites, but everyone was very friendly and helpful if we had a question.
