This place is awesome! Had the place to myself for 3 FULL DAYS! No full timers living there. Must be that there is very little to no cell service, no potable water and no pit toilets.
It's small and people crowd in on the weekend. We stayed down the hill next to it.
Nice weather, mid September is in the low 80s during the day and low 50s at night. spending 3 nights here. Didn't know a yearly motocross event was happening the day after I arrived and the placed soon filled up for the event. Even though there were a ton of people, everyone was very respectful at night and not much noise going on. There are no services but the town is 15 min away if you need supplies. The road was dirt but fairly flat. There are a few spots with fire rings, tables and shade but not many; there are many other spots you can park along the dirt road.
I arrived as the sun was setting, & the view was stunning. Google maps initially had me turn onto a gravel drive that was fenced off. The actual gravel drive for access is just a little to the south & marked by a brown sign. I drive about 2 miles from the main road in a low clearance car, no problem. There is a guest book & some informational pamphlets in metal boxes, either side of the bulletin board. Despite having read that there were "on-site" bathrooms in another review, I only saw the covered tables, fire rings, & charcoal cooking stations. Overall, a lovely site on free BLM land, & if I pass through again, I will definitely stay. Remember to practice "Leave No Trace" principles, & be aware that this is home to wildlife.
Great place with awesome views Town is close for supplies. Small grocery store near the main part of town. I got propane by trade at Tillies and laundry is at a small campground in town, open to everyone. Water is available at the free city campground near the park and Courthouse.
