We did an overnight backpack trip here with our Scout Troop. It’s a great location for noisy Scouts because the campsites are very far apart and have great views of the valley. There is a moderately strenuous hike up to the backpack camps. From the gate at the parking lot you hike about 1 mile to Little Yosemite. Continue on for another mile then turn uphill on Backpack Road. The sign says .5 miles but it’s 1 mile to the main entrance to all the backpack camps. Depending on your campsite you will be looking at another 1/4 mile for a total of ~ 3.25 miles one way and 800’ of climbing. The water and restroom are 1/4 mile away but it wasn’t that big of a problem. Bring a filter to treat the water and enough containers so you only fill once for the night. There are no bear boxes so you need to hang your food. We heard coyotes in the distance and smelled a skunk in the middle of the night but didn’t have any issues with critters getting into our hung food. The campsite has a great view and is very secluded. This is a nice trip if you don’t mind the climb. The Scouts all enjoyed the trip. Age ranges for our group were from 11 to 50+.
Nice flat spot with views, and a more secluded lower area with table and food prep area. Far from other sites, so it's pretty private. The privy is a steep hike down, then a steep hike up from there to get water. There was no trash can, so plan on packing everything out.
Beautiful spot. Very quiet, private and cleanly kept. It's a couple miles of steep backpacking up to the sites.
Great place to camp.
